Tethering issues - anyone else? in IT Support ·
Check your phone settings and make sure your hotspot isn't password-protected.
Then, go over to your Windows taskbar, right-click that connection icon in the bottom right corner, and hit "Troubleshoot problems" to see what else it says.
GPU won't output to desktop. in IT Support ·
Go into your Control Panel, open up Device Manager, and find that AMD Radeon R7 260. Just right-click it and hit uninstall. Or, you know, just use the actual uninstaller program for that graphics card if you want to be thorough. Once it's gone, just grab the driver online or use the CD if you still have it lying around and reinstall everything.

If you're running Windows 7, make sure you grab all the latest updates. Honestly, getting Service Pack 1 installed is the absolute big one. But if you've moved up to Windows 10, just double-check that you're on the Home edition—you don't want to be stuck with some heavy-duty Enterprise version meant for big corporations and stuff.
Windows 7 CPU usage stuck at 100% in IT Support ·
shadowviper12 said:Thanks for all the input, everyone—here’s a bit more context to help clear things up:

1. I'm running Chrome
2. On Windows, the only things actually running are Panda Free and Viber
3. The CPU just hits 100% and stays there—even when the browser isn't doing anything, like right when I first boot the machine up
4. As for the RAM, it says it's pulling about 800 MB, so I don't think swap should be such a massive headache here
5. I've had Windows Update turned off since the day this thing was set up
6. No Skype installed either

Dammit, it shouldn't need an entire NASA supercomputer just to browse some basic sites.

Get rid of that Panda Free and check if your Windows 7 is actually on Service Pack 1. If not, find the KB patch, download it, and install it manually.
Avast used to absolutely murder my CPU. It would stay at 100% constantly.

So, that's just svchost.exe handling a ton of different processes. Honestly? Just Google which specific services you can safely disable without breaking anything.

Open up your Task Manager and click on the CPU column to see what's actually eating up your resources. I'm pretty sure there's an official Microsoft patch out for this exact issue—some KB number or something. Give it a quick search to find that specific update. Or, you know, just install Windows XP.

I think there’s some kind of patch that needs to be installed? I can't quite put my finger on which one. It seems like Outlook is just having a total meltdown with American time zones and date formats.

The image link is broken. Try uploading it somewhere else. Imgur can be pretty glitchy sometimes, don't you think?

Hit the Start menu, type in msconfig, then head over to -> Boot -> Advanced Options and make sure that "Maximum memory" box is unchecked (assuming there's even a checkmark there to begin with).

You should probably flash the latest BIOS, too. It might just be outdated.

If that doesn't do the trick, try making a Hiren bootable drive to run some Hardware diagnostics. Who knows? It might not even be an issue with the RAM. Something else could be acting up.

Just download the Hiren ISO to your computer, then use Rufus to burn it onto a USB drive in a bootable format. Give your computer a restart and make sure you set it to boot from that USB first.

Here are the instructions:

First things first, you really need to check what the maximum amount of Intel memory that motherboard can actually handle. I have a buddy whose limit is stuck at 2 GB, for example. Just Google the model of your motherboard and look up its capacity limit. It could also be an issue with Windows itself. Try creating a new partition and installing a different version of Windows on it just to see what happens there.
