Everything you need for a California wedding in Weddings ·
Yesterday I mentioned I’d follow up if I tracked down any reliable suppliers for anyone else who might be looking. If you need floral foam—those little green blocks used to build arrangements out of fresh blooms—IBM in Savannah has everything from the flowers themselves to ribbons and mesh for making boutonnieres. You can also try Rose over in Austin. Just a heads-up regarding IBM in Savannah: for retail customers, they generally require a receipt totaling more than $67. Hopefully, this saves someone a bit of legwork.

Thanks, Mark Hughes8. It looks like they carry them at the local Target near Duilovu too. If I find out for sure, I'll let you know—might save someone else a trip if they're looking for the same thing.
I think I'll just head over there myself. I heard that at Ira Commerce, you can buy wholesale if you have a business license or if you drop more than $100, but honestly, all I'm after is a pack of sponges.

Hey, does anyone happen to know where I can pick up some round floral foam spheres in San Francisco? I'm looking to make those decorative flower balls.

Does anyone have recommendations for seaside restaurants located somewhere between San Francisco and Savannah—perhaps around Santa Monica or Charleston—that could accommodate a wedding dinner for about 60 guests?

I’m also wondering where else in San Francisco I can pick up invitation stationery besides that Barnes & Noble across from the post office downtown. They only carry that pearlescent paper in purple, which isn't exactly what I'm looking for.

Thanks for the response and for providing the number 😉
I stopped by St. Peter's and noticed they have dates set for January 17th and then an engagement ceremony on February 7th. We’ve decided to go with February 7th.
I feel compelled to set the record straight on this. I haven't actually attended a wedding at the Slanica venue in San Francisco, but I’ve encountered claims online suggesting their staff can be quite rude, and I find that hard to swallow. We ultimately decided against booking them because we aren't interested in a traditional wedding setup, but during our initial consultation, the woman we spoke with was absolutely wonderful. She was incredibly gracious, walked us through every detail, and even offered us a drink—not a hint of the hostility people describe. Her email responses were also prompt and professional. As for the catering, I can't speak from personal experience, but my maid of honor organized a small gathering there for her friends and mentioned the food was excellent.

Regarding the venues listed, I have personally visited the locations in Savannah—specifically Bellevue and Manhattan. My experience at both was quite positive. That said, if I had to choose, Bellevue is more aesthetically pleasing, and the food was slightly superior.
I find myself in need of some assistance once again.
We put down a deposit for a wedding luncheon at Kaštil Slanica because we heard decent things, but lately, I’ve been hearing whispers that they’ve botched a few orders and messed up several banquets.
Has anyone here actually dined there for a special occasion? What was your experience like?

On another note, I am dreaming of having a wedding at Our Lady of the Island in Solin. Has anyone else held a ceremony there or perhaps has plans to do so? How did you go about contacting the priest? The church website doesn't list any office hours, and I have no desire to call blindly only to be brushed off. Or is it common practice to tip the priest after Mass?

Also, what is the protocol for signing up for the pre-Cana course at St. Peter in San Francisco? Is it handled over the phone or through some other method?

Please, help a girl out.

We finally bit the bullet and decided to host a lunch for the relatives followed by a full-blown party for our friends. The vision is essentially a buffet-style spread paired with a DJ, with all the seating moved outdoors to catch the breeze. Now, I’m looking for the right venue in Miami or somewhere nearby that can pull this off. Does anyone have recommendations for a specific lounge, restaurant, or bistro? We're looking at a group of about 30 people.
Hey there. I’m getting married in San Francisco next September. I was wondering if anyone here has had a DJ handle their reception instead of a live band? I'm curious about what the energy was actually like on the dance floor. If anyone has a solid recommendation for a DJ, please shoot me a DM with their contact info.
Does anyone happen to have a photo of the Diocletian restaurant over in Malibu?
For those who attended the wedding held there, I’m curious about your take on the overall vibe, the quality of the food, and how the staff handled everything.
Thanks.
We are looking to host a wedding for about 70 to 80 guests sometime in 2010, ideally somewhere near the coast or by a river in the San Francisco area or its immediate surroundings. So far, we’ve received quotes from Salt Lake City and Taco Bell, both coming in at $40 per person.

I could really use some help navigating a few specific details, so please, save me from my own indecision.
1. Has anyone here attended a wedding at The Old Tavern near the Santa Monica river? My wife insists that 70 people is the sweet spot for that venue, but since the space seems quite intimate, I'm worried about it feeling cramped. If you've been there, how was the food and did the guest count feel overwhelming for the room?
2. Is there a cafe or restaurant out there that would allow us to rent out just a terrace—preferably one with a roof—for a single night? We are considering hosting an after-party for our crew where we simply rent the deck and bring in outside catering.
3. What is the standard going rate for a wedding DJ these days? I have scoured every corner of the internet and still can't find a clear answer. Also, if anyone has a recommendation for a great DJ, please send their name and number via PM.
