Honestly, I wouldn't be getting worked up either, but lately it feels like the negative feedback is coming at me from everywhere, not just this forum. Before I started talking to them—the Maraschino Band—I only ever heard good things... but regardless, thanks for saying that. It really helped.😉
brighteagle19 said:I actually attended one of their gigs once. Honestly, they’re talented musicians, but it felt like they were just playing for themselves rather than the crowd. It was a massive event—around 400 people showed up—yet the dance floor looked pretty empty.

Oh man...😲
Wait, how does that work? I thought they were known as that band that plays all night long, sets the vibe, and actually gets people moving??🤷
Ugh... what are we supposed to do now??😢

We’re thinking about hiring Maroon 5 to play at our wedding. We really want a band that can keep the energy up and keep the party going all night long. Has anyone here ever worked with them, or maybe been to a wedding where they were the main act? What are they actually like? How late do they usually play, and do they take long breaks during the set?
I'd appreciate any insight you can share.
Best,😉

Anyone???👋
Is nobody going to help me out?🤷

A part of the Calypso band actually plays at the Forum too... given their track record, I doubt they'd be anything less than great... I was just wondering what they're like for weddings since I haven't caught them live yet...

Thanks for the heads-up on Rockatansky; sounds like Big Fun is a solid choice too... do you happen to know what their rates look like?

As for the light show, it feels like a lot to me too... but I'll give it some more thought. I need to see where I can trim the budget just to see if I can squeeze this in... maybe. Yeah, I know the Trophy crew had their own lighting setup... but they're booked up... which I guess explains why their prices are so high...

Yeah... I've been taking everyone's advice to heart... thanks... Susan actually pointed me toward a cameraman, and I've already 👍

Oh, and before I forget, thanks Mariposa, Tani, Ivanaudan, and Olivia Adams71... 🙂 for all the helpful info...

Yeah, true... and before I forget—even though I really need to watch my budget here—what’s the consensus on light shows? Specifically, what kind of pricing should I expect around the San Francisco area?

I’ve only ever looked at one quote, so I’m trying to figure out if I’m looking at the high end, the low end, or somewhere right in the middle🤷...as far as costs go...and what have your experiences been like?
Personally, I think they make a huge difference for the vibe...it changes how the whole venue looks, and honestly, people tend to🙂 relax more on the dance floor when they aren't staring under those harsh, bright house lights...

What do you guys think?

Hey ladies...

I’ve pretty much picked out everything...
I have to give a huge shoutout to Susan—she is seriously amazing...🙏

The only thing left is the music. I'm still deciding, so I wanted to see what you all think about Calypso and Rockatansky?
Also, any thoughts on Big Fun?

Thanks, everyone!

Oh, that's awesome... thanks so much, Tani...🙏

I just shot an email over to Susie, so we'll see what she comes back with...
I figured she'd definitely have some videographers to suggest anyway...
If it's just a standard, basic package $1667 then that would be a Super price👍🎉for the photos and then this much extra for the video...😍
Olivia Adams71 said:We were on the same page. 😉
Look, it’s pretty obvious—you talk to any makeup artist and you’ll quickly get a feel for how they actually operate. Just listen to their vibe and use that to set your own expectations. 😉

Yeah, you're totally right... I definitely needed a few recommendations first, which is exactly what you gave me 🙏, but I'll figure out the rest just by talking to them! 🎉
Olivia Adams71 said:I think the one from Aurora used to live in NYC, but I'm not positive.

Look, I don't know where you saw those "cemented" faces, but from what I've seen, these girls look amazing and their makeup stays put all night long: Blackie, Ancika, and a few others who aren't even on this forum.
Anyway, at the end of the day, you're the one calling the shots on your own style.☕
As for prices, I'd guess around $67, but Blackie and Ancika probably know better—you should just shoot them a DM.😉

Then she's definitely the one from Aurora...
I've personally seen young women get done up so heavily that they would've been ten times better off without any makeup at all. To be fair, I didn't see that happening at the NYC parties... but still... I'm just asking. I want to pick something that actually suits me, which is why I'm here in the first place.😉

thanks for everything...
Olivia Adams71 said:You've got Aurora in town, and Simpa over at the Walmart on the Boulevard—actually, just around there, in the same building as Hypo Bank, there's another hair and beauty salon.😉

So, what you're saying is they're great because they don't just cake you in layers of makeup that make you look ten years older? They go for a more natural look that still holds up all night?

Sorry if I'm being a bit blunt, but I really wouldn't want to get my makeup done only to come home and have to wash it all off myself...😲

Also, how much does it cost to get professionally done?

I heard about this stylist who used to work at Glamour in NYC, but she's been based in New York City for a few years now. Her salon is somewhere downtown, but I can't remember the name. Could that be the place?

p.s. thanks for the info.

If you’re willing to invest a little extra to really elevate the musical experience at your event, I cannot recommend them enough.
They performed six songs for us, and honestly, they were flawless; they brought such a unique, soulful atmosphere to the entire wedding ceremony:
Here is the setlist we handpicked for them to perform:
"When You Come to Me," right as the bride was walking toward the groom
"My Beautiful Angel," during the flower girl moments
"Let There Be a Calm Sea," which they played at the end of the ceremony just as the fireworks started
"Christ on My Soul," right as dinner service began
A heartfelt American classic instead of a traditional hymn
"My Fairy," for our very first dance🙂

Super, super... especially for the first dance!!!!👍
Sarah Anderson79 said:Blue, I actually booked Suzy. You can find out her rates by sending her an email; she'll walk you through everything and you guys can coordinate a meeting if you're able to get to her location. If not, she'll clear it all up via email. Honestly, she isn't nearly as pricey as people claim given the quality of her work—for me, the photos are the most important thing, and I'd pay double what she charges because she's such an awesome woman. Plus, I've seen the shots and albums she's done for my friends. Here is her link: http://www.suzynewlife.com/ Just shoot her an email and she'll give you the lowdown. As for the Trophy band, they didn't really wow me at a party I went to; I much prefer the guys from Tempo or Modus. I don't have their number handy, but I can track it down for you. I decided against a massive gala; we're looking at about 50 people—just parents and best friends—and I'm planning an afterparty too, so I'm trying not to sweat the tiny details. Martin Arbanas is doing my makeup, and she is incredible. For hair, I'm going for that loose, effortless look, and I've left all the heavy lifting to Silvana from Si Wedding Events. Check out her site here: It lets me focus on enjoying myself without stressing over the logistics. Silvana is handling the decor, the bouquet, the cake, and all the sweets. I've picked a color scheme, and everything will revolve around that. The venue is Adriana, and I need to be ready to hit the floor and celebrate until the early hours of the next morning. Catch you later, ladies!

Tani, thanks so much... I'll definitely reach out to her by email. I'm actually heading to New York City this weekend, so I might even be able to see her in person...
No cameras??

Blue Mandarin oranges are such a delight! I remember picking up a crate of them at a local farmer's market last summer, and they were absolutely bursting with flavor. kaže:
Hey everyone! Hope you're all doing great!
I’ve been having such a hard time lately trying to track down reliable bands and photographers here in San Diego—those are easily the two most important things for any event!🙄

It looks like everyone is raving about Pixar lately! Does anyone know where I can find their official website? I just can't seem to track it down.🤷 I honestly can't even bring myself to look at their work!

Same here—Susie seems like a solid choice, but I read somewhere that she’s pretty pricey. If anyone knows what a basic package actually costs, please shoot me a DM!
It looks like I might have to fly in a photography studio from New York City along with all my guests! 😁
Those few units we were eyeing in New York City? They're already spoken for. Everyone beat us to the punch!

Second thing—bands. We were really aiming to be the trophy-winners for our big date!

To my dear little mandarin orange and all the young ladies growing up here in San Diego—I have to tell you, Susie and Tempo are hands down the absolute best duo in town!
When I'm down in San Diego, there is absolutely no one else I'd trust with my photos besides Susie and her wonderful husband!🙏👍 They are absolutely wild, but man, that photo is stunning! When it comes to weddings, they really go all out—it’s not just giving 100%, they’re hitting 150%.
They aren't any worse than that Art Studio in Newport everyone claims is "the best." Honestly, they’re only the best if you want to give yourself a massive headache trying to figure out their pricing!
Susie just picked up her mid-tier package! $1667 Honestly, that’s a perfectly fair price for the kind of work being done! I actually paid a similar amount for a freelance designer in San Diego last year, and it was worth every penny.
For that price, you’re getting quite the haul! You get a photographer on hand from the start of the ceremony right up until the bouquet toss, a beautiful album featuring about 130 to 140 professionally edited shots, a CD of those highlights, and a full DVD containing every single photo taken at the venue. It includes all those tiny little details that most guests probably miss, plus everyone captured in all sorts of funny, candid poses!😂
They just work around the clock starting from February 14th and catch everything!
I honestly don't regret spending a single cent on them! It was worth every penny.
This album is absolutely stunning! Every time my girlfriends come over to visit, I find myself pulling it out to show them again—I honestly admire it just as much every single time. They are simply the best!🙏

Tempo was absolutely fantastic! They really know how to set the mood, and I had such a blast because they played exactly the kind of music we wanted to hear. It was great seeing everyone from the kids to my older relatives out on the dance floor together. Their rate was... $2667 They truly earned it!

By the way, before I wrap this up, I really need to give a huge shout-out to Sylvia—she did such an incredible job decorating the hall and the church!
Hey everyone! If you need any advice, please feel free to ask. I remember when everything was brand new to me, too!

Joanna, thank you. You've been such a huge help.
I'm heading to New York City this weekend, so I'll check out the Suzy Price you mentioned for the basic package. It doesn't look bad at all compared to what things cost in NYC. One thing though—Suzy doesn't provide the camera herself, right? So, I'd have to factor in the extra cost for a camera, but the real issue is where to find one that isn't tied to the photo package.🤷🤔

We'll get to hear Tempo at a party we're attending soon, but it might be too late by then—they might already be booked for our date. We'll try to see them perform this weekend instead.

Since you've been so helpful in guiding me—do you happen to know anyone in NYC who does great makeup? Nothing heavy like stage makeup, just something natural that lasts all night? And also, someone who does amazing hair?

Thank you, thank you 🙂

mellowfalcon said:I’m guessing all the top-tier bands will be booked up every single Saturday 🙂 we were eyeing September 10th, but hey, I guess I'll scrape something together—it's basically a double payday for them anyway, two gigs packed into one week 🙂

haha, I know for a fact I’d definitely be playing 😂...but you'll find something for sure...
Yeah, I know the Stanley Cup is on September 11th, assuming those slots aren't filled by then.
I sent you a PM, but it glitched out, so I'm not sure if it actually went through.
Oh man, our date is September 4th.
We're getting close 🙂

mellowfalcon said:I’ve got a party coming up this Friday, so hopefully that makes getting everything organized a little less of a headache..
My only real worry is that the bands might flake on me—they might decide it's too much of a grind to pull gigs both Friday and Saturday.. Is that actually a realistic concern? 😢

Hmm... honestly, it really depends on what month we're talking about and if they already have gigs booked for Saturday.
It all comes down to the deal you make with them. If they’re playing until 3 or 4 in the morning and then have to be back at it by 7 or 8... man, I don't know. Hopefully, they can grab some sleep.😉
Maybe if they're younger, they won't mind as much...😉
Everything you need for a California wedding in Weddings ·
But I’m definitely going to catch the Trophy performance at the party on the 9th. 😉

Anyway, let me know how the Trophy set turns out.
Maybe what I heard was just a one-off fluke, or maybe it was just because of the crowd.

Olivia Adams71 said:Here's the local scoop from the San Diego connection😂
Bands:
We used Amadeus, and they were solid.👍
I'd recommend Tempo or Big Fun. Zadarexpress is okay, but you basically have to give them a detailed blueprint before the party starts to make sure they nail it.🙄
Don't know much about the others, but I'll be catching Trofej at a party on January 9th.😉
Photographers: Unfortunately, they don't have a site. Your best bet is probably calling them and asking them to email some samples.🤷
Mine aren't ready yet😢 but I promise to share the album as soon as they land.😁

Hey there!👍
So, we used Amadeus—we'll give them a call and see when they're available to play.
We're planning on listening to Tempo at the party in December, but since they usually fill our usual slots, we should probably go hear them live before then too.
Our main issue is that we work in New York City, while my partner is originally from San Diego. I spend my entire summer down south, but we just don't know much about these specific local details. It seems like nobody promotes themselves online lately; honestly, it feels like nobody even has their own website anymore.

So, did you use Studio G?
And how much did it run you??
