So, if I remember correctly, there are only about three bridal salons in Indianapolis—though I’m based in NYC now, I used to live in Indy where the wedding was held, so my memory is a little fuzzy. Ines is probably the most low-key option if you ask me, which worked for me since I was looking for something incredibly simple. The lady at Nikolin is absolutely lovely and truly goes above and beyond, but honestly, some of their dresses were in pretty rough shape. Plus, even though I just wanted something basic, she kept trying to push these massive crinolines on me, so I eventually gave up on Nikolin altogether. Stefani seems decent enough, but I never actually tried anything on there, and apparently, you have to make an appointment. Since I had just arrived from NYC that day, I didn't have the patience to play phone tag to set something up, so I just stuck with having my dress custom-made at Ines. To be perfectly honest, I’m not exactly the "typical bride," and I wasn't exactly riding a wave of euphoria over the whole gown situation; in fact, the mere thought of wearing a wedding dress felt a bit suffocating 🙂 Ultimately, I got exactly what I wanted, so it all comes down to personal taste... but really, it shouldn't be too much trouble to check out those three shops; it's not like there are a hundred of them to choose from 🙂

I don't think things are quite that bleak. Sure, they might have fewer options than Nikolin, but I actually had my own dress custom-made there. Why? Because every single time I went into Nikolin looking for something simple, they kept shoving these massive, heavy gowns at me—stuff I couldn't even walk in properly! And to top it off, they kept insisting that the style I actually wanted just wouldn't suit me. So, I decided to try Ines instead. I sat them down, explained exactly what I was looking for, showed them some inspiration photos, and tried on one dress that came close to my vision. Once we realized it actually looked great on me, we were all set for custom tailoring, and I was thrilled with the result.
At the end of the day, you really just have to go check for yourself; everyone has such different experiences and opinions...

Are they actually thicker?
I headed over to the Target in downtown Chicago, hoping to find a few things, but honestly? It was a total bust. The only thing I actually managed to track down was that specific shade of green I’ve been hunting for. Everything else was just... nothing. 🙂 They weren't even that expensive, honestly. And I'm fairly certain there were white ones available too.

I have no idea why it didn't occur to me to ask you right away, especially since I know you'll be stuck dealing with them too... 🤷
Thanks. 🙂
Oh, please, I’m actually looking for the thicker ones—I probably need about 40 to 45 units total, though I haven't quite decided on the exact number yet. How tall are yours, roughly? And what did they end up costing you? I noticed they have them at the Democratic Party headquarters too, but I can't recall what the individual price per unit is there.

I’m on the hunt for some candles—roughly 4 to 5 inches tall, preferably in white or cream. Does anyone happen to know where I might find a decent deal on those? Any leads would be much appreciated!

James Lopez8 said:Dear fellow crafters,

Does anyone happen to know where I can pick up some pre-made bows without too much hassle? I spent the entire day hunting for them and came up empty-handed. I'm also looking for some tulle. I checked out a shop over in Canada and it’s quite affordable... $5.25 (dimensions about 1m x 2.20m), but the catch is that I'd have to cut it into strips roughly 30cm wide by 2.20m long, and honestly, I really don't feel up to all that tedious cutting. So, does anyone know where I might find tulle on a roll that's already close to that 30cm width (ideally in green and white), along with some ready-to-go bows?
Best regards,

I'm not a regular here, but if I can help... 🙂 I wasn't quite sure where you were shopping today, but you couldn't find any bows in Canada? I actually picked some up along the corridor for $0.27/each. Maybe it's worth taking another look over in Canada...

Jesse Morgan73 said:From what I can gather, the ones I'm actually looking for are from Vinkovci. I’ve watched some of their work on YouTube and everywhere mentions Vinkovci, but then a girl gave me a contact number, and when I called, it turned out to be those guys from El Paso... I honestly don't know if it's the same crew or what might be going on there.

Oh, they're definitely the same group. I'm pretty sure their main studio is actually located in El Paso, but maybe someone got the locations mixed up and started telling everyone they're from Vinkovci. Don't sweat it, though; it's the same outfit regardless of which city they claim.

Jesse Morgan73 said:Does anyone happen to have a contact number for Studio 69 over in Vinkovci? They handle photography and video work, and I’m in a bit of a rush to get a hold of them... thanks a lot.

I'm pretty sure they're actually based out of El Paso. If you check their Facebook page, you should be able to reach them there—that’s how I managed to get a hold of them. Honestly, they might even have their phone number listed right on their profile, but I can't say for certain. Look for "six-nine studio."

Hey there! I'm looking for some solid recommendations in the VK area—specifically for a hair salon and someone who does great manicures. Honestly, I’m not really feeling the whole artificial nail look lately; I’d much rather have someone just refine and polish my natural nails 🙂
I’ve heard whispers that Studio 54 is a decent spot for hair? But please, don't hold back—any and all suggestions are more than welcome 🙂
Thanks..

Angela Davis74 said:One person asks about the cost, while another shares their opinion. Everyone is entitled to both. Personally, I know nothing about their process. I just remember paying $3,000 for a few DVDs—no idea how much footage was actually on them. It’s the same with those old wedding videos and photo keepsakes from when we were kids. An album with 400 photos, maybe 25 large prints, a few duplicates, and some files on a DVD. I don't recall the rest. 😉🙂

So... who on earth was responsible for capturing the wedding shots and video?

placidnomad94 said:I mentioned that I hired Krizmanić and shared the rate he quoted me because someone asked about his fees, not to invite criticism toward him or my decision to hire him! I’m not foolish enough to have made the trip from Indianapolis to Vinkovci without receiving glowing recommendations first... I saw his work personally, and I like what he does. A man wouldn't stay in business if he wasn't actually good at his job...

neonridge38 said:I'm curious, who actually needs to have those embroidered towels for the occasion? Is there a specific tradition for it? I know they're used for godparents or tea ceremonies...

So, here’s the situation: over at my place, even the towels have... Godparents? Is that really what we're calling them now? It’s such a heavy, loaded term, isn't it? In our culture, being chosen for that role isn't just some casual social gesture or a way to pad a guest list. It’s a lifelong commitment. It’s a bond that goes deeper than mere friendship. When you stand up there and accept that responsibility, you aren't just a guest at the wedding—you're becoming part of the foundation of a family. It's a sacred trust. Why do we treat it like it's just another title to collect? Both sides of the coin, really. What on earth are we even talking about here? Is this some kind of inside joke I missed, or are we just throwing random words at the wall to see what sticks? If you're trying to make a point, you might want to try again—preferably with a bit more substance next time. i Is there anything more exhausting than dealing with people who constantly try to play the victim? It’s truly relentless. One minute they’re acting like they’ve been dealt a losing hand by life, and the next, they’re looking for anyone to blame for their own lack of effort. Why does this pattern repeat itself so consistently? Is it a lack of accountability, or just a convenient way to avoid doing the actual work? It’s frankly tiresome..
Wait, what exactly are we talking about here? Is this just a random thought, or am I missing some crucial context? Give me something to work with! One big one goes on him, and then two smaller ones go on his hat—or a cap, or whatever else he’s wearing.
And now you’re telling me they’re bringing smaller towels for the backup band? Honestly, even the guys playing the background music aren't getting the full treatment.
If you want to get this right, you really ought to ask the elders in your family. Everything about these traditions depends on where you come from, from start to finish. Take my hometown near El Paso, for example—around here, we don't typically give gifts to the godparents. However, the local rule is that both the groomsmen and bridesmaids receive towels, which means everyone ends up with two. On the other hand, my boyfriend comes from a Border Town, USA, where they actually do give gifts to the godparents, but only a single item, and they receive it strictly from the bride's side. To avoid any drama, we decided on a compromise: everyone gets a gift, but we’re sticking to just one per person. 🙂
Well, I’ve gone and done it. I've completely lost my footing. 😵

We’re looking at roughly 250 guests, and since we’re still in the very early stages of planning, I’m just doing my due diligence... it seems like there are quite a few of us in the Zg-V area.🙂
"I actually emailed them asking for their menu and pricing, but I haven't heard a peep back—I'll probably have to give them a call. That hall near Petrovac? I'm a bit skeptical; I've heard the food isn't great, and apparently, everyone was thrilled with the service over at Admiral. At first, I was hesitant because of the drive out to Indianapolis, but honestly, that might end up being my top choice either way."

I've heard nothing but horror stories about that hall in VU. Getting them to agree to anything is an uphill battle, and the service? Absolute disaster. And I'm not just talking about one wedding; it's a pattern. People actually advised me to cross them off my list immediately, which is exactly what I ended up doing.
I visited Admiral myself. They're decent, but there's a catch: you can't exactly bring in everything you want like we had planned. You either have to play by their rules or commit to using all their catering and drinks, which made the total cost jump significantly. In the end, we decided to go with Lucia over at Zalužj. I received glowing recommendations for Lucia, and the woman running the show is fantastic. She answers every single question, and even though we showed up at the most inconvenient time possible, she was incredibly welcoming and easy to deal with.
That said, I really think your best bet is to tour all these venues in person, grab their menus and price lists, and then make your final call.

We had the exact same thing happen in our town back on October 23, 2010.
Could you please DM me your number? I want to sit down and chat with my mom about this; after all, she’s the real expert when it comes to baking. 😉She’s actually heading over to NYU soon, so it would be easy for her to drop by, especially since I’m stuck working here in New York City.
Thanks a million!

James Wilson16 said:I had them at my neighbor's wedding once and they were honestly amazing.
I'm actually getting married on September 4th this year, so I'm planning on getting all the desserts and the wedding cake from them. Honestly, you can't go wrong, and the price is pretty decent too (around $17/lb).. Best bet is just to call the owner and ask if you can grab one of each kind to do a little tasting before you commit. That's what I did.

That’s great! This is exactly the kind of feedback I look for. 🙂
I’ll be looking forward to hearing how everything turns out after September 4th! 🙂 One quick question though: does the bakery provide the health department documentation that restaurants are requiring for desserts these days? And where exactly was this wedding held?
Everything you need for a Midwest wedding in Weddings ·
Greetings! I was wondering if any of the ladies here have tried the pastries from that small town, USA? I can’t quite recall the owner's name, but the bakery is called Catherine. Any thoughts or reviews?
Tnx

Hannah Bailey6 said:Does anyone have any insight into the pricing at Admiral in SF? Also, what’s the availability looking like for 2011...

As for the pricing, I can't say for certain, but here’s what I do know: you simply can't bring everything you need—all your own food and drinks—without running into issues. You either have to supplement their offerings with your own supplies, or just commit to buying everything they provide. I recall the price being somewhere around... $47 In the capital, but just for this year.
Last year, around September, I started looking for an opening for this year—specifically aiming for late August, September, or October. The only slot they had available was October 23rd. So, if you ask me, those prime dates from May through September are probably already booked solid by now. Honestly? Your best bet is to just show up in person. Once you're there, they lay everything out for you on paper, and then you can figure out how to work the system to your advantage.
Was the ransom really $400?$167.

mellowjackal1 said:You guys are seriously the best!! It means so much having this place to vent to... my big day is May 29th and I am counting down the seconds! I’ve already started having wedding fever dreams... anyone else getting those?
Lately, I keep dreaming that nobody shows up, or the bride and groom aren't even in the hall where they're supposed to be... just total chaos vibes.
Huge thanks to Christian Taylor8!!!🙂

Well, I actually had my first wedding dream just last night... it was intense. My friends didn't show, and my mom was stuck cooking dinner for the guests while I was absolutely losing my mind... but honestly, I still have six months until the wedding, so there's plenty of time for these kinds of nightmares. I'm trying not to let it get to me too much; whatever happens, will happen. 🙂

Even though I probably should be feeling a little more anxious, we've already booked the restaurant, the live band, our song for the first dance, and it's just us two for now. 🙂

mellowjackal1 said:Hey everyone... my big day is getting closer... just over a month out now... we already sent out the invites, mostly because I just couldn't stop thinking about them. Between the actual sending and all the complaining we've dealt with, I'm a bit frazzled. We went with a pretty playful vibe for the wording and didn't mention our parents at all. The text makes it clear that *we* are the ones inviting you, not them (honestly, they haven't lifted a finger, and we're footing the entire bill and doing all the planning ourselves)... but now the relatives are starting to chirp because apparently, since our parents are the ones "giving us away," they have to be listed. It really stung... I'm wondering if you guys included your parents on your invites, or if we totally messed this up?

You absolutely did not make a mistake. We aren't planning on mentioning our parents on ours either. Honestly, it didn't even cross my mind; those old-fashioned invitations where the parents act as the hosts feel totally outdated to me. And thank God our parents haven't even asked to be included.

And besides, don't let this get to you... people are naturally prone to being difficult, and they will find the tiniest thing to nitpick if you give them the chance. You invited them because you want them to share that moment with you, which should be an honor in itself. The fact that they're choosing to complain is incredibly unfair on their part.

I'm actually quite jealous! My wedding isn't for another six months, and people are already finding things to criticize—from the color palette I picked to the photographer, and even the band... but personally, I'm just letting it all go in one ear and out the other. 🙂

The most important thing is that you and your partner love each other and that you have an absolute blast celebrating with your family, friends, and everyone you hold dear. People will forget about the invitation wording eventually anyway... and since they're already out there, there's no sense in stressing yourself out over it now.

Hey there!
Does anyone happen to know where I can pick up those custom name labels for wine bottles around VC? Is there a local print shop or something similar that handles that kind of thing? Any idea what I should expect to pay?
Thanks!
