vividcrane95 said:Hey everyone!! Quick question for the group—has anyone actually caught the band Vogue from Indianapolis live lately? I’ve seen people raving about them on this forum before, but looking at the timestamps, most of those posts are from way back in 2011. It makes me wonder, are they still any good, or have they totally lost their edge?

That band is still killer.!!

Hey everyone! I'll try to keep this brief, but I really wanted to give back because we desperately needed this kind of info ourselves. We had our wedding last year. Forum, or rather, these specific sub-sections of the site, were absolute lifesavers for us. We were flying totally blind at first! I just stumbled upon these pages by chance, and every single question I asked turned into a goldmine of information. To save myself the headache, I narrowed my search down to two things: the band and the venue!!! Best decision I ever made.!!

The reception was held at the Crystal Ballroom (the big one). We had about 350 guests, and the service was top-notch. Right from the start during negotiations, they gave us several menu options to choose from ourselves. The food was delicious and served right on schedule, exactly how we’d planned it.

But here’s the most important part for me: The Band played for us, and it was actually through these very pages that we got the recommendation for them..!! Once the party wrapped up, the thing I was most proud of was picking that band—they were the ones guests kept raving about all night. Even now that it's all over, I still believe that music is arguably the most critical element of the whole day..!!!
I teach music in school, and honestly, I've been a guest at plenty of weddings (both before and after my own), and unfortunately, the music is usually terrible (at least in my book). The girl and guys from The Band left such a great impression on me; we still go to catch them whenever they're playing local spots. They're fantastic!..:-)

hollowjackal9 said:I’m really just looking for a band that plays anything except country music. We’ve already reached out to a handful of groups here in town, but honestly, they all sound pretty much the same to me. I'll definitely check those bands out; perhaps one of them will actually catch my ear. Thanks!

We ended up going with the Still band, mostly because of recommendations we found right here on this forum.
We did our homework—checked their site, looked at videos from weddings they’ve played, and even sat down with their rep to hammer out the details. He was a genuinely great guy to work with. He made it clear that the couple always calls the shots on the setlist, and they’re happy to play whatever. But what really sold us was their actual sound and stage presence; it just clicked for us.🙂 Plus, they’ve got a female vocalist.
Highly recommended...🙂

They’re incredible... seriously.👍

We’ve officially pulled the trigger on Fleetwood Mac...
now we just have to sort out our issues with Adobe.....😉

Thanks for all the advice, everyone. You guys really saved us some headaches..🙏

Jack Lee5 said:I noticed you were looking into booking a full band—mine just played a wedding recently, and honestly? They weren't great. The music was way too loud, to the point where you could barely even hear the vocals over the instruments!

Look, I get it, but at the end of the day, that’s on the musicians themselves. For us, the main thing is just making sure they sound good,
and if they happen to be loud, there’s usually a fix for that somewhere..😉

We’re listening to Fleetwood Mac tonight, so we'll see how it goes..🙂
Thanks for the heads-up...🙂

Robert Moore86 said:The Band is actually great... I don't know if they're still playing, but I know they used to tear it up at the Old tavern every single weekend, so you should go give them a listen

We've heard so much about how incredible they are,
so I'm really hoping we get to catch them live this weekend...
Unfortunately, they aren't playing at OBP anymore because they're booked up for weddings everywhere.😢

Mark Nguyen11 said:nimblebadger57, did you hear about that sax band out of Columbus? I think they play exactly the kind of music you're looking for...
You should probably book them as soon as possible. They’re in high demand, so I'm not sure how much time you have left.

🤷 Honestly, my head is spinning. I'm getting hit with information from every direction here.
A few days ago, I was totally lost, but thanks to you guys,
I've finally started to figure things out through this forum. I see there are some bands online with promo clips... do they actually have anything decent to show for it??

granitegull35 said:Hey, I actually know The Beach Boys from Indianapolis... they cost a bit more, but I went to a few weddings where they played and they were awesome!!! Hopefully, we get someone like that too!!😍

Yeah, I've heard plenty about them while doing some intense digging over the last few days.
Honestly, most of the praise I've picked up is for them and the Still band.
We'll see how it goes..!!!🙂

cosmictiger67 said:I actually went ahead and put down a deposit with them. While I haven't had the chance to taste their work personally, the consensus among my circle has been overwhelmingly positive. I’ve seen their cakes in person, and I must say, they are quite impressive—large, beautifully decorated, and truly eye-catching. From what I gather, everyone who used them for weddings was thrilled; the service was spotless, everything arrived perfectly chilled in refrigerated transport, and the pricing felt very reasonable. For me, that's more than enough reassurance. 🙂

Thanks a million.🙂
one less thing to worry about...😉

Jacob Barrett24 said:Did you have some sort of unpleasant encounter with them, or is there another reason? I actually ended up going with them myself, so I'm curious about your take.

Look, tastes vary. You and a lot of other people might actually love them, and that's fine.
The thing is, we were looking for something a bit more modern—something fresh. At the venue we visited,
they stuck mostly to oldies, and honestly, their style just didn't hit the mark for us.
But hey, like I said, everyone's different. Don't sweat my opinion too much!

Anyone here tried Smith’s pastries and desserts yet? Looking for some real feedback...I heard the guy is actually a trained pro, supposedly.div>

Jacob Barrett24 said:nimblebadger57, my suggestion to you would be The Beach Boys from Indianapolis.

Ugh, NO THANK YOU...!!

Anyway, thanks for trying, though.

Jack Lee5 said:nimblebadger57 really ought to be specific about what she’s actually looking for—like, what genre of music are we even talking about? For instance, we usually have The Beach Boys playing twist music, not that old-school folk stuff, and honestly, I think they’re fantastic... I’ve caught them performing at plenty of weddings over the years.

One thing is for sure: we definitely don't want any cheesy country singers at this party....!!!!
We already got a suggestion for The Beach Boys, some Libertarian Party crowd out of Savannah
but over the next two weekends, we really ought to check out Still band and The Doobie Brothers.
I'm not exactly looking to crash someone else's wedding to find out if they're any good...🤷

I’m new to this whole scene. We’re planning our wedding for early next year, so I’m hitting you all up for some intel and recommendations
regarding bands and photographers. We aren't looking for budget options—we want a band that actually knows how to play and sounds incredible. We get it; good music is everything when the party is on the line...!!!
We actually attended a wedding recently where the band
that gets mentioned around here was playing, and honestly? It wasn't our vibe at all. I know tastes vary, but there's a baseline for quality, right? So, we’d really appreciate
any and all suggestions...:-)

We’re based out of Indianapolis.
