And yeah, that's the whole thing with the cake—they bring one, and then take another one back. It’s all the same to me, really; it seems to be an agreement between the two of them, a tradition or whatever, and I certainly won't step in or interfere. 🙂

I've already set aside most other traditional customs, and honestly, the thing I'm looking forward to most is NOT having to do that awkward dance with the bride. Bye-bye to that tradition! eheheheheh

Exactly, I'm planning to skip all of that too—no garter toss, no bouquet toss, no idea what else might be on the list, but I’m opting out of everything! hahaha

So, my dear husband was a best man last year, and after the Sunday brunch, he basically brought home half the wedding gifts they had bought—it felt like a huge haul—plus he got presented with an entire cake at the reception itself. Later, I chatted with my mother-in-law about it, and she mentioned that for families who still hold onto certain traditions, that's just how it goes... and that we'll probably return the gesture to them down the road.
As for me, I was a maid of honor about three years ago, and I didn't receive anything at all. As the maid of honor, I was technically supposed to provide the cake, but her mother ended up paying for it and told me it was from me—though the bride mentioned that it wasn't really my tradition to pay for it, so I wouldn't be expected to.
Personally, I don't really dwell on these things—I don't feel like I need all that stuff—but since it's their custom, I try to be respectful of it.
Maybe you could just check in with your own family or the people you're standing in for—you know, see what they expect or what kind of traditions they personally follow.

Exactly. In my house, it’s really just my mother-in-law who clings to these old-school traditions. It doesn't mean much to me personally, especially since many modern weddings skip these customs entirely, but I’m happy to let her have her way. She insists that we receive a cake from the wedding party and then give one back—of course, in a different style—but I don't mind either way, as I wouldn't know what to do with extra cakes anyway; I'll just share whatever is left over. I’m mostly asking because of my own maid of honor; neither she nor I have any clue what she is supposed to expect, and that's where the confusion lies. 😕

Could someone offer some advice? Our invitations have finally arrived, and since the wedding and reception are set for October 26th, I’m trying to figure out the best timeline for reaching out to guests. My plan is to start making calls this coming Sunday and then continue with a few more people each week so I can get everything checked off my list as soon as possible. Does that sound reasonable, or am I starting a bit too early?

Listen, dear, I actually received my invitations on July 15th. I started making calls around late July and early August. I still have two or three more physical invites to hand out, but since those guests have already been briefed on the location, timing, and details, the actual card is really just a formality at this point. The wedding and reception are set for October 12th, and everyone needs to RSVP by September 20th.

Haha, wonderful. 🙂

I have had the pleasure of working with an Inch photographer from Indianapolis and a Click photographer based out of Savannah. In my opinion, the Inch photographer is worth every single penny. It is clear that he truly loves his craft, and I walked away with the impression that you receive much more value than what you actually pay for.

Of course, I later realized that the number was actually 4. $0.00 If I had a significant amount of money, I would likely face a bit of a dilemma: would I prefer to spend it all on an extravagant shopping spree in Italy, or simply let it sit in my bank account as a safety net for a rainy day? It really comes down to one's philosophy on wealth. If everyone else seems to have found success with stocks like Click or Zoom, there is no reason why I couldn't experience that same kind of luck. 🙂 🙂 I'm losing my mind.

I reached out to Zoom as well, but in the end, I decided to go with some local professionals who had availability. Their pricing was fairly reasonable, too. As far as the inch measurements go, they seem to be doing a great job—they’ve actually been over at a colleague's place and a friend's house within the last three weeks.

Now, I’ve been wondering about something... what exactly are the traditional roles and responsibilities of the best man and maid of honor? Specifically, what is expected of them during the wedding and reception? Also, is it customary to gift them a cake to take home?

I really need to finalize my budget, but does anyone have any insight? Please help; I am completely in the dark regarding how everything typically unfolds.

I’ve caught them playing a few times now. These guys are solid, so I've decided to book them as my backing band. They even have an accordion player... weee 🙂

Price? $333

Please swap phone numbers via private message. M..

They will be providing music for us as well, and my brother is actually playing the accordion, so it is going to be a very lively atmosphere! 🙂

I suppose I should probably say something here... It feels like we’ve all been circling the same drain for a while now. I was sitting there this morning, just staring at my coffee, thinking about how much things have shifted lately. Everything feels a bit more frantic, doesn't it? A bit more rushed. I find myself missing those slower afternoons... back when you could actually breathe without feeling like you were falling behind some invisible clock. Anyway, that's just me rambling. Just a thought... kaže:
Does anyone happen to know if there are any other spots left...? That little Orangina bottle... there was something about it. It’s more than just a drink, really. Just a simple, iconic little thing you'd grab from a fridge at a gas station or a corner bodega... those glass bottles always felt different in your hand. A bit more substantial. I can still picture it sitting on a table back in the day... turns out, some things are just built better than others... Where can I actually find some...? I heard Smith is completely out of stock, and at the local coffee shops around here—well, at least in my neck of the woods—they aren't carrying it at all. There is this one single spot that still has it, but they’re charging enough to fund an entire wedding party... 🙂

I need about ten of them...

If you really can't find any at the local coffee shops... maybe just grab a whole case of soda from a wholesale club like Costco. Then you'll have plenty of bottles on hand... 😉 We were just as sweet as you... It wasn't even that expensive, really. But we definitely paid for it in stress and wasted time... and we certainly had enough to drink... 😛

dustytinker58 said:I wanted to jump in on the conversation about those orange soda bottles... has anyone actually thought about using the ones from Gatorade? I’ve seen them used at a few weddings lately and they work surprisingly well. At the end of the day, it’s all the same thing anyway—as long as what's inside the bottle is good! 😁 Maybe it would be easier to just source them through local bars or cafes to make collecting them simpler...

Thank you all for the suggestions. I think we will ultimately go with the sparkling water bottles; I had been considering either those or small wine bottles, though those little wine bottles are hard to find everywhere, so water seems like the better option. Besides, I would much rather drink water than orange soda—I really don't care for it, nor do I enjoy carbonated drinks, and my husband doesn't drink anything except Coke. I will do a bit more searching, but if nothing else turns up, I'll just pick up a case of sparkling water. 🙂

Does anyone happen to know where else I might be able to find some Orangina bottles? I heard they’re all out of stock at Bijelić’s, and the local coffee shops around here (at least in my neighborhood) don't seem to carry them. There is one specific spot that stocks them, but they charge enough to fund an entire wedding party 🙂

edit: I'm looking to pick up about ten of them

Yes, my godparents handle the church fees, but I'm not entirely sure about the rest... I haven't really had much reason to look into it until now, when things actually became necessary. 🙂 Ladies, I need some advice! I just heard that renting a tent for 40 people costs $333, and for a group of 100, it’s roughly $2,000. However, I have no idea what that covers—does it include transportation, setup, teardown, benches, tables, utensils, or dishes?

Hello everyone! To start things off, I am currently researching venues and looking for musicians at the same time. I would love some recommendations—and if you could include pricing for bands, ensembles, or groups with a diverse repertoire, that would be wonderful. Additionally, I am looking for photographers, videographers, catering, cakes, and even attire.

The event will be held in Donji Miholjac, so we will most likely head over to Harkanj to go suit shopping. Since you mentioned it’s quite affordable, that sounds perfect! As for everything else, anything within my reach up to 62 miles is absolutely fine... so please, feel free to share your suggestions! 🙂
Of course, we are trying to keep costs down since we are paying for this ourselves. I am actually planning to pick up the rings in Canada (which is quite chic!) because I shop at their jewelers regularly and get a great discount on gold. Regarding my dress, my maid of honor is going to try to find one for me in Zg since there is a significant sale happening there. One thing I am unsure about, though—if anyone happens to know—is the cost of renting a tent for about 100 people and what that typically includes. I am trying to weigh whether that is more cost-effective than just booking everything directly through the venue.
I am feeling a bit overwhelmed because I am not sure which priority to tackle first: securing the venue, booking the musicians, or coordinating with the priest.

Also, the date cannot be before September. This means the earliest possible date would be September 28th. A Friday wouldn't work for us; since it isn't peak season, I imagine it might be difficult for guests to take time off work.
To anyone who can help with a comment, a piece of advice, or a suggestion, I thank you in advance!! 🙂
