That’s exactly my point.
She was asking about what to get her father-in-law and mother-in-law, and even mentioned buying gifts for brothers and sisters... so I just had to ask where those kinds of traditions even exist, since I grew up in California and I've never heard of such gift-giving customs before. Just pure curiosity, really. 🙂
??!!
I'm honestly confused... this is the first time I've ever heard of such a gifting tradition in California (I'm originally from San Diego).
Nobody I know—whether they're from San Diego or even further inland—has ever bought anything for their future in-laws, nor have they received gifts during those "return visits."
Okay, look, when you go over to someone's house for the first time (you know, that famous "meet the family" introduction), it’s common courtesy to bring something along—maybe some flowers, a bag of coffee, or a bottle of wine—but that's just standard etiquette for visiting anyone, regardless of the occasion. When I met my future mother-in-law, I didn't buy her a thing, and she didn't get me anything either. I wasn't expecting a grand gesture by any means.
So, could someone please enlighten me? In what part of California would you actually find customs like these?

Godiva 😉
They made this "cake" for us: http://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fb...type=3&theater
The camera used was nearly half a meter wide—the craftsmanship was just phenomenal. Honestly, hats off to them; they’ll always have my recommendation.
Since I was feeling far too lazy to deal with any of the wedding planning (I truly don't understand why there's such an enormous hype surrounding it), I didn't bother shopping around for different prices. I went straight to them instead. In the end, I am so glad I hired them because they executed exactly what I wanted perfectly.

I actually had a couple lined up to shoot their wedding this May, and they were originally set to host it at that estate. As it turns out, the venue ended up canceling on them because apparently, they're planning a massive renovation. My guess is the work will take a few months, so if you're looking to book a date in that window, you might run into some availability issues. That's all I know for sure, but honestly, your best bet would be to give them a call directly.
What kind of nonsense business model is that? Those new terms they're imposing are just ridiculous...
I actually had my wedding at the Bolero venue (located in the Belvedere building in San Francisco) back at the start of September. Even though they told us their minimum requirement for weddings is 150 guests, we ended up with only about 120 or 130 people because quite a few guests couldn't make it. We simply paid for the number of people who actually showed up; there were no strict conditions or any issues whatsoever, despite us being significantly under the number we originally announced.
On top of that, the hall looks absolutely stunning, the table layout is perfect, they have these great colorful lights, the food was fantastic, and the staff was attentive without being intrusive—everything on their end was flawless.
So, if I were in your shoes (or rather, your friend's shoes), I wouldn't bother haggling or dealing with people like that at all. I'd just find a different venue and let them be greedy with someone else.
Besides, if you're based in San Francisco, it's much easier for the crew to grab a taxi home (and come back for their car the next day) rather than worrying about how to drive back from a suburban town after drinking. For me personally, that was one of the most important deciding factors, which is why I focused my search on venues in San Francisco first, and Bolero turned out to be a total winner in every way.
To be honest, I had about fifteen different venues on my list when I started searching. I went to them first since they were the closest, and I didn't even bother looking elsewhere after that. Just to be clear... I don't work there (so please don't get the wrong idea!) and I have no connection to them other than being a client that night.

Neither the mall, nor The Joker, nor anywhere else in the city had what we needed. The pants were alright, but finding a decent jacket? Nowhere to be found. 🙂 🙂 🙂
At this rate, we’re going to have to go hunt down a tailor. 😕
Have you tried Martin Luther King Jr. (over in the new Empire State Building near Dodger Stadium)? He even carries Mr. Mot in his collection.

mostly, the $50-$23 per person is just for drinks
food price is $46 per person, plus I pay for the BBQ separately
ends up being about $35 for me in the end
Supposedly their food is great, and for the grilling, I'll just work it out with the chef who knows a local guy who can handle it
The point is, this is perfect if I need to host people coming from out of town and need a place to put them
That's why I'm asking if anyone actually has experience with this hotel. The hall doesn't look bad at all—large terrace, ocean view
And yeah, if this falls through, were you guys worried about the lodging itself, or was it more like "we can reserve a room for you, just let us know and pay later" type of thing?
Okay, that sounds much more reasonable now. Clearly, I misread the initial details, because $50-$$23 seemed a bit ridiculous to me.
$35 is a fair price, and from what I've gathered while asking around, that's pretty much the lowest rate you can find.
If the reviews from people who have been there are positive, then I'm on board. 🙂
Honestly, I have no idea what you expect to get for just ten bucks a head.
I’d be terrified to even book something like that. You run the risk of dealing with terrible food, incompetent staff, and basically everything else going wrong... 🤷
Even if someone offered me a standard menu for twenty dollars per person, I’d still find it suspicious or just plain too cheap.
Look, I’m not trying to break down their wholesale costs or anything, but you have to remember they actually need to make a profit while covering the cost of ingredients and paying their employees. How on earth can they stay afloat with only ten dollars per person?
In my humble opinion, just run the other way.
As if they’re the only photographers left on the planet... 😢
