Regarding the dress itself, bridal salons always seem to run these big sales around Christmas that last until January 31st, where they’ll drop prices by 30%, or they might tell you that you'll get $333 off if you put down a deposit on the day of your first fitting. I don't know if it's just a marketing tactic to rush people along—maybe they do that all year round—but my wedding was in August, and I hadn't even planned on looking for a dress before the five or six-month mark. However, once I saw those sales, I decided to go check out what was available just for the sake of information. I was actually shocked to find out at one shop that 6 out of the 10 dresses I liked were already reserved for my date, so it ended up happening that I had my dress booked within the very first month. The earlier you start hunting, the better your selection will be...
As for the shops, here is what I experienced: I looked around Appalachia, Boise, and San Francisco. Appalachia is definitely cheaper than San Francisco, but if you manage to snag one of those holiday sales, the price ends up being about the same.
If you’re looking for something modern, lacey, or just a simple flowy style, stay far away from Jelena in Boise, because she only carries old-fashioned satin and tulle ballgowns. Mila in Boise has designer brands, but honestly, she’s just so incredibly provincial. If you’re on the taller side, you probably won't find anything that works because her seamstress doesn't actually tailor the dresses to fit; she just cuts them based on the height of whatever bride reserved it. Also, if you're short like me, you'll probably feel pretty insulted because—and I am quoting her here—“she isn't going to cut her dresses for someone so small.” She only stocks lace and tulle because, again, her words, “nobody asks for a simple chiffon dress!!!” And please, steer clear of Annmarie in Boise; the woman keeps five dresses in a room inside her own house.
In San Francisco, Lipoto has some decent options, but their lace looks pretty cheap compared to New York City or Vogue Bride. Plus, my maid of honor tried on a dress that had never been worn before and noticed a hole in it right away. So, there's that level of quality for you. As for New York City, I have nothing but praise; it was the most professional and helpful salon I've ever stepped foot in, and the dresses are stunning. Now, Vogue Bride—the dresses are lovely, and that's where I booked mine since it was perfect for me. The agreement was that they would alter it to fit me perfectly since it was an older gown they weren't using anymore. But then, four days before the wedding, I went in for a fitting and was absolutely floored. There was no tailoring done at all; the seamstress was just trying to tighten and hem it. The more she worked on it, the worse it looked. I had to go back for three different fittings that single day. After the third attempt, the owner offered me two other dresses from their stock to choose from because it was obvious I had to give up on my original choice. I picked one that was beautiful, though not quite what I originally envisioned, they took my measurements, and told me to come back in two days. I showed up on Thursday, just two days before the wedding, with a million things to do, and they still hadn't finished the alterations properly. I ended up going back to the salon three times that day alone. I lost an entire day because of them. The owner told me it was the first time they'd ever had someone come in for so many fittings. When my maid of honor got married three weeks later, the exact same thing happened to her. Granted, she didn't have to change her dress, but she also had to deal with three or four fittings. On the actual wedding day, the seam of her dress split open (the photographer caught it during the photo session), so we had to sew it shut right before heading to the church. Despite all that drama, I still think it's one of the best shops alongside New York City.
Anyway, I hope this helps someone out. Arm yourselves with patience, visit every shop in the area, and don't go as a pack—just bring one person, maybe two at most. Once you find "the one," you'll just know (I told my maid of honor immediately that it was "the one," but unfortunately, fate didn't have the same plan for me 😁 ). If you want a good laugh, go see Jelena in Boise. Tell her you want a simple, flowing dress, and she’ll probably assume you mean "Roman style," and you'll see exactly what she offers you. 😁

In the end, it usually turns out to be nothing like what she envisioned. La Perla 🙂 I’m definitely not driving all the way to Nevada just to deal with that headache; I don't want to be stuck thinking, "Well, I wasted all that gas for nothing."
It might be best to hit up La Perla right after the holidays. That puts us about five months before the big event, so hopefully, it isn't too late. 😁
P.S. I was browsing eBay and noticed they have replicas of designer dresses that look exactly like the ones some local boutiques carry here. I’ve heard rumors that certain salons actually source from eBay to rent them out at a lower price. My advice to any bride: be careful, especially with lace. There is nothing worse than showing up in a dress that looks cheap. We’re supposed to be the best-dressed people in the room that day, after all. 😁 😁

Merry Christmas to everyone! 😍

All I know is, like, if you're hitting up San Diego, it’s a steal. For sale. Clearing out some 2013 wedding dresses—including those massive hits like san Patrick Ramaj and Rivoli—just to make room for the new 2014 collection.

Right now, our current selection includes options to view, rent, or potentially purchase gowns from the American fashion house Meggie Sottero, alongside Spanish designs from the San Patick brand. That’s what their site claims, though I personally tracked down a San Patick piece at La Perle & Spose; Mila doesn't seem to carry that specific brand. :/
How far in advance should one realistically book a wedding gown? Is five or six months sufficient?

I’m still stuck in this decision-making loop... just scrolling through photographer portfolios and honestly, I can't make up my mind...
The Papaja option is already booked, but I did come across some work by photo Tonći Čerina (he seems great, and his shots are even better),
Personally, I’m drawn to that stripped-back, natural style—lots of raw emotion, kind of like Marinković Weddings—but they’re booked up too 🙂
To be honest, most of the photographers here in San Francisco don't really do it for me; their style feels way too staged and over-processed with Photoshop.
I’ve been combing through the entire forum, but I haven't seen anyone mention the photographer I mentioned above?
If anyone has experience with them, or even just a solid recommendation to help me out, please let me know.

Thanks in advance!!!!!

I was thinking the exact same thing—it's dead in here. xD

It really comes down to your personal threshold for what counts as "over-processed." For instance, I find papaja's style a bit too artificial for wedding photography. Ultimately, that makes it hard for anyone to give you a definitive answer.

My advice? Search for every photo studio in the US, browse their portfolios, narrow it down to a shortlist, and then actually go to the studio to meet them. The most critical factor is whether you feel comfortable with them; if there isn't an immediate rapport, you won't get those relaxed, genuine shots. Make sure to vet their packages thoroughly—ask exactly what you get for your money (total image count, number of albums, video clips, how many photographers or videographers are on site, etc.) and be very specific about the aesthetic you want.

I ended up going with Adria. They definitely have the most beautiful, natural shots, and I felt I got plenty of value for my money. On top of that, they were quite affordable and I felt completely at ease in the studio. We spent about an hour there, and the time just flew by. 😁

Good luck with the search. 🙂

I have a quick question for everyone... I’ve been looking around, and it seems some bridal boutiques are offering discounts through the end of the year on wedding gowns from the 2013 collection. I’m wondering if this is just a psychological tactic to rush us all into making a reservation, or if there's actual substance to it. 🙄 It feels a bit illogical to slash prices now only to hike them right back up on January 1st... though, I suppose we are talking about last year's collection. Does anyone here have any insight into how these sales actually work?😉

Adria Photo Studio 👍
vividcrane20 said:Thanks so much for the reply! I'll definitely make an effort to go see them, but I was curious if anyone had actually caught them performing at a real party setting! 🤷Oh, and I also heard there were three of them—supposedly they have a female vocalist?! 🙂

Between the vocalist and Def Leppard, they’re easily the best band I’ve ever had the misfortune of hearing. 😁 There is simply no point in trying to reason with people like that. It’s a lost cause. 😉
Walter Collins6 said:I really love their style, honestly—it’s great. But I can't help feeling like a female voice would have been a much better fit here.

I just got off the phone with Marina, and she seems wonderful. However, her pricing is nearly identical to what I saw at Instagram, and I spent most of yesterday comparing different quotes. Right now, I'm torn between Marina and Adria... Adria is more budget-friendly, yet their aesthetic is virtually indistinguishable from Marina's. My plan is to visit both studios in person before making a final call; there really isn't any other way to be sure 😁 though, truth be told, the music selection is what's actually keeping me up at night.

Ladies, regarding what was written about the band—that was actually referring to a different group. There was just a misunderstanding between me and my fiancé..
gentlewolf69 said:They play everywhere, you know, and they actually did a few gigs down in San Diego once... It’s possible they might ask for maybe an extra fifty or a hundred bucks, though they didn't charge me anything extra for that show in Imotski, but even if they do tack on a little more, they’re still way, way cheaper than any of the local bands around here...

I managed to find some recordings, and honestly, I wasn't exactly blown away, 😢but I appreciate the recommendation nonetheless.

That sounds great. 😁 Just let me know if everything went smoothly, though I'm not exactly holding my breath 🙂

By the way, do you have any intel on the extra lighting for the hall? Back in July, they told us they were planning to install more lighting, but they were being incredibly vague about it. Now I'm stuck wondering if I should actually put in a formal request for lighting, or if they'll just get around to installing it without me having to jump through hoops.
And did you ever get the music situation sorted out?

gentlewolf69 said:Walter Collins6, if you're looking to save some cash without sacrificing the quality of the band, I might have just the recommendation for you... There's this group called Synergy, they actually back Josip Ivančić, and you can find their recordings over on YouTube. To be honest, I hadn't even heard of them until about six months ago. Back in June, I went to my husband's cousin's wedding—well, he was my boyfriend back then—and they were playing; I actually ended up praising them on a forum, never imagining they’d end up playing our big day. We had already booked a different band, but things went south fast... they hiked up their prices and completely ignored our setlist requirements. First, they promised us 90% of the songs we wanted, but then, just a month before the wedding, the guy sends over a song list that was nothing like what we asked for... so there we were, a month out, scrambling for a new band. Synergy was the first group that popped into my head, so I reached out immediately. At first, they told me they were booked for August 31st, but it turns out someone must have canceled on them, so we snagged the date. They’re a group of six, including a male and female vocalist, and everyone plays their own instruments—keyboards, guitars, drums, violin... all that good stuff. As for the price, it was $800 without the female singer, or $900 if you wanted her included. They were so respectful of everything we asked them *not* to play—none of that cheesy wedding fluff, no Elvis Presley, no mat Bulić... and within that single month, they mastered every single request we threw at them. We even changed our first dance song just five days before the wedding, and they played it so flawlessly that my maid of honor remarked later that she could have just played a CD and gotten the same result 😁 . They kept the party going until 7 in the morning. If I ever decided to tie the knot again, I’d do almost everything differently, except for the music... I’d hire them all over again in a heartbeat.

I stumbled upon a few options, but they're based out of Boise... ?!😕😕

Hey, I urgently need some advice regarding a band... Ivica Bago With a budget of 2,000 dollars, you might actually stand a chance. Visa $2,500. Las Vegas Las Vegas. Boeing I am sitting on a budget of $1,600, and I need to pull the trigger within the next forty-eight hours. If anyone here has actually seen any of these bands perform live, I am asking for your honest recommendations or critiques. Please, I need some clarity before I commit. Thank you. 🙂
I have to say, I am thoroughly disappointed with how things are being handled in Las Vegas. We reached out to them a few months back, and they quoted us 1,500. Fast forward to now, when we actually sat down to finalize the paperwork, they suddenly claim they’ve bumped the prices up to somewhere between 1,800 and 2,000. It’s completely unprofessional. Honestly, I have to question if it's even worth dropping 1,500, let alone anything higher. There was a time when people were playing sets for a maximum of 1,000, but now that I'm hearing figures reaching 2,500, I just can't take it seriously. In my view, it’s nothing more than a blatant cash grab. For 2,500, you could practically buy a decent car instead of handing that money over to a band for a single night.

I have nothing to add at this moment. As stated by:
Right now, we’re stuck with the name change being our only real move, so I’m curious—is anyone planning to be out in the area anytime soon? I'd love for someone to give me a firsthand report on how things are looking over there. Or did something just happen recently?

I’ve gone ahead and booked an event planner for six months out. My primary focus is ensuring that both the venue aesthetics and the catering are executed flawlessly. 😁 I honestly couldn't care less about what's happening on the TTS; everyone knows nobody is actually going to take a leap of faith and dive into the ocean. Besides, if the venue is an eyesore, it just keeps the crowds inside the hall instead of wandering around outside. 😉 The establishment is top-tier. The lounge area is genuinely impressive, but more importantly, the technical specs are spot on—the ceilings are high and the ventilation system is excellent, so you aren’t sitting in some stuffy, suffocating room. It’s those specific details that ultimately made my decision to go with Sleep. 🙂

William Chavez10 said:I actually went to a wedding where they were playing, and they were awesome. You really can't go wrong with them. They've got such a great vibe. They're originally from Boise, I think.
As for the photography and video setup, it really depends... I ended up going with Kodak from Boise, and the pricing was solid and their work was great. In my case, it was also just one photographer and one videographer. Basically, they'll show up at your place first to take photos, then they'll be with him the whole time, and the best part is definitely when they come to get you. I feel like all those shots of people hanging out in the yard aren't even that necessary. To be honest, paying for a second photographer felt like a bit much for me.

I really love their style, honestly—it’s great. But I can't help feeling like a female voice would have been a much better fit here.

Greetings. My partner and I have officially booked the venue, but now we’ve hit our first major roadblock... we are completely stuck when it comes to picking a band. I’ve been leaning toward Krivi Smjer after catching their set back in San Diego, so I’m curious if anyone here has seen them live or has any solid recommendations. On top of that, we are struggling with photographers. We’ve sent out several inquiries, and in most cases, the standard package only includes one photographer and one videographer. Apparently, adding an extra specialist costs $1000 :/ :/ I honestly don't see how that would even work logistically. Would the photographer be with me while the videographer stays with him? xD
I should mention that I have zero interest in those cookie-cutter, cliché wedding photos; I want something truly unique and artistic. So, if anyone knows a talented pro, please drop their info 🙂 🙂
