As for Boise, you might save some cash, but you risk issues with the dress itself... just like I did.
Honestly, I wouldn't recommend Helen or Annmarie. And if you decide to go with Milo, god help you if you have the patience to listen to her. She’s exhausting. She’ll just pull out whatever she thinks fits you, which definitely wasn't the case for me.
Regarding Texas, all I've heard is that they let you try on originals—like from Bertha—but when you actually rent for the big day, they hand you a copy. Apparently, plenty of girls end up in legal disputes with them. (That's specifically regarding the Los Angeles branch of La Perla in Široki Brijeg La)
And they act like La Perla San Francisco is the only one authorized to sell in the area, claiming everything else is just a knockoff.
A friend of mine paid top dollar for a Bertha $3000, so the price isn't exactly cheap either... especially if you don't end up getting what you actually wanted.

I can't say I agree with those claims about Texas at all. Especially since I'm not just repeating rumors; I've seen firsthand how the rentals work because I've been there numerous times—as a maid of honor, as part of the wedding party, and as the bride herself.
If you check Pronovias Barcelona, they list exactly who carries their gowns, which applies to at least two or three salons in Texas.
As for the whole "renting copies" thing, I have no comment. 🤦
The best thing to do is go see for yourself; decide if you can spot the difference. A friend of mine recently rented a Bertha from them. In San Francisco, they wanted 14 $0.00, but she got it there for 10 $0.00, so I wouldn't say it's a bad deal. Of course, it depends on your budget; personally, even $1667 is top-tier for me.

Anyone else willing to help me find my way around?

What about Los Angeles FC? They have a presence in San Francisco too.

Is this some kind of joke? Does anyone actually get what's going on here?

To looks like the John Doe wedding hall out in Boise to me. But don't quote me on that—I've only ever seen the photos online.

They have a page on Facebook:

I’ll try my luck on this thread, since it feels like the photography discussion hasn't quite hit its stride yet. Anyway, does anyone have a recommendation for someone whose style mirrors Papaja or Maji Jokic, but stays within a budget of roughly $2667? I'm strictly looking for photography services here.
