Is sports nostalgia getting a bit out of hand? in Off-topic ·
I saw a tribute recently that felt way more dramatic than the actual player deserved. Sometimes it feels like teams try too hard to manufacture these "legendary" moments just to pull at the heartstrings. Does anyone else feel like the hype cycles in sports are becoming totally unrealistic?

What’s actually driving the card shortages and these sky-high prices if it isn't just people chasing profits because crypto is up? When can we realistically expect prices to settle down?

Is this dip actually going to do anything to card prices?

Since my local shops are pretty much a desert when it comes to hardware, and I’ll be heading into Washington, D.C. next week, does anyone happen to have one of these up for grabs:
RTX 30-series
RTX 30-series
RTX 30-series (standard or super)
RTX 3050 (super only)

Look, I haven't done a deep dive into every single SKU—that's a rabbit hole depending on the specific card—but after comparing a few models within the same series, I'm starting to see a pattern here.

Dropping from five outputs down to four? Fine. But cutting from five down to three feels like a blatant cash grab.

Quick side note here. I’m actually planning to build a rig with a four-monitor setup, and I’ve noticed that newer generation cards seem to have fewer outputs than the older ones. For instance, the GTX 16XX series usually tops out at three outputs—one DisplayPort, one HDMI, and one DVI—whereas the 10XX series typically offered five, like two DisplayPorts, two HDMI ports, and a DVI. I get that DisplayPort can daisy-chain multiple monitors, but plenty of older screens still rely on standard HDMI or DVI connections.

What's the reasoning behind cutting down the number of outputs, and do you think it’s actually a step backward compared to the previous generation?

Accenture offers a quick turnaround of 1-2 days for $50, or you can opt for their "free" diagnostic service which takes about three weeks. Apparently, it’s free because they only look at it when they have downtime—and they claim it might even be finished sooner than the three-week mark. Personally? I wasn't a fan. The whole vibe was pretty shady—not transparent, definitely not friendly, and zero human touch. They didn't bother asking any questions or giving me even the most basic info regarding the process or the timeline; the guy just grabbed a service sheet and started typing in my details. I actually had to pry information out of him just to find out what it would cost and how long it would take. In the end, I didn't leave my drive with them. I took it to a local PC repair shop instead, and they managed to rescue all my data using a software tool for just $25. I wouldn't recommend Accenture.

From what I can gather, there are four main players handling this in Washington, D.C.:

1. Accenture - 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue NW
2. DataSector - 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue NW, DataSector
3. DiskDoktor - 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue NW, DiskDoktor
4. IDE3 IT - 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue NW

I’ll be in D.C. this Monday, so I was thinking about hitting them all up to get the ground truth firsthand. Any experiences to share? Is there one I should steer clear of?
I've got an Apple MacBook Pro 15 equipped with an NVIDIA RTX series. For video outputs, I'm looking at HDMI, DP, and VGA. My goal is to run a triple-monitor setup specifically for Microsoft Flight Simulator. The monitors I'm eyeing use DVI-D inputs. Since I can't stand clutter—call it OCD if you want—I’d really prefer to run all three through a single output. I was thinking about using a DP 1>3 splitter followed by some DP to DVI cables.

1. Is running three monitors this way actually doable?
2. If I go this route, do all the monitors need to have the exact same resolution?
3. Any recommendations for a high-quality DP splitter?
4. Can the system actually handle 3x Full HD for Microsoft Flight Simulator? Or maybe 3x 1600x900?
