I was watching the game last night and it got me thinking about how much the "clutch" factor has changed. It used to feel like the whole momentum of a game could swing on a single mistake or a sudden burst of energy, but lately, it feels like everything is so heavily scripted by analytics and bullpen management.
Don't get me wrong, I love seeing a big hit late in the game, but I find myself missing those old-school sluggers who would just overpower a pitcher through sheer force of will. Nowadays, it feels like every single matchup is a calculated chess match between a specialized reliever and a specific hitter. It takes away some of that raw, unpredictable magic for me.
I don't know, maybe I'm just getting old and nostalgic for a different era of the sport. Does anyone else feel like the reliance on specialized bullpens is killing the drama, or am I just missing the thrill of the unpredictable?
