Mistaken wire transfer/payment error in Banking, Insurance & Loans ·
I’m looking for some advice here. Basically, my employer just realized that after six months, they've been overpaying me. Since I work in education, when I saw the bump in my paycheck, I just assumed it was part of that recent teacher union raise. Now, they're telling me there was a glitch in the Department's payroll system regarding how my years of service were calculated, and they want me to sign a consent form so they can claw back the entire "overage" from my next paycheck.

What are my actual rights in a situation like this? And who should I take these pay stubs to so someone can double-check the math? (Since everything is based on specific coefficients—where each year of experience bumps up the rate a little bit, etc.)

Thanks so much for any help you can give.

I can meet up for local pickup in Chicago or Indianapolis.
