Up until this point, I thought I could handle just about anything—Lexapro, Paxil, Seroquel, Zyprexa, Anafranil, Xanax, God knows what else, I can't even remember it all—but this stuff? Good grief, not this.

I had the exact same experience when I first started Effexor. If you can, try to push through this initial phase. It might sound a bit silly, but I found that Quick crackers actually helped with the nausea—they have ginger in them, which is great for the stomach. I was sleeping an absurd amount too, but that eventually levels out. I still sleep quite a bit, and the arrival of spring hasn't helped my energy levels much, but things are definitely better. Hang in there. 🙂

I’ve been on 150mg a day for about a year and five months now. Those first four months while I was ramping up the dosage were absolute hell—nausea, constant drowsiness, and this persistent ringing in my ears. The one silver lining was losing 7 pounds (though I eventually gained it back, so no big deal 🙂). Things are alright now. Am I thriving? No. But compared to how I felt before starting Effexor, it's a massive difference; I can actually function about 80% of the time. Since I haven't tried any other antidepressants, I can't really say if something else would have "settled" better, but this is where I am.
