Quiet keyboards? in Computer Peripherals ·
Hey there! 😁

Right now I’m stuck using this basic Apple keyboard. It does the job, but there's one massive problem—it is way too loud. Honestly, I didn't think computer keyboards could get any quieter, so I never bothered looking for an upgrade. But then my office brought in one of those models, and man, it’s practically silent when you type. Plus, I feel like typing on it is actually easier than my home setup because the keys have a shorter travel distance, though maybe that's just in my head.

Anyway, I want something just like that, but I am definitely not dropping $400-$167 on it. Can anyone recommend something similar (or the exact same thing!) for around $100-$67? It feels like a quiet keyboard shouldn't cost a fortune, especially since I don't even need it to be wireless (though that would be a nice bonus).

Let me know what you guys suggest! Thanks! 👍

thanks for the deep dive! 🙂

honestly, I was mostly freaking out because I’m pretty sure this sound wasn't there before, and now it’s popping up in those exact moments I mentioned. I don't know the first thing about electronics, so I figured it's better to ask than to wait for something to blow up. It’s not like it's deafening or anything—you really only hear it if you press your ear right against it or get super close—so it probably isn't dangerous. Thanks for calming me down though; I'll keep an eye on it. If it gets worse, I'll just take it to a repair shop or toss it in the trash.

I checked with an authorized service center about the battery price, and they sent over a quote for about $233. Felt like a total rip-off, so I'm just dealing with it as is. I am NOT dropping $233 on a battery...

I think I’m in trouble here. 😁

Got this relatively new HP's laptop, but the warranty expired a few months back. A few days ago, I noticed the charger makes this buzzing sound after I unplug it from both the wall and the laptop. If you put your ear right up to it, you can hear it—it's not deafening, but definitely audible—for about 30 seconds before it dies down.

Did some digging and realized the charger actually buzzes constantly when it's plugged into the outlet but not connected to the laptop. It sounds like a little "bzz" noise. As soon as I plug the barrel connector into the laptop, the buzzing stops and it goes silent. If I pull it out of the wall, the buzzing starts up again, lasts 30 seconds, and then quits.

I'd bet anything this wasn't happening before; it just started doing this weird thing where it buzzes while plugged into the wall alone. Is this dangerous? Why is it doing this? And does it have anything to do with the fact that my battery is basically dead—it barely holds a charge for 5 minutes max, so I'm living on the charger 99% of the time?

Speaking of the battery... everything was totally fine six months ago, holding a decent charge, and then suddenly it just tanked to five minutes without any warning. Not sure if they're linked. I called Zelcos tech support about it, but they told me their policy is only a one-year warranty on batteries, even though the rest of the laptop gets two years, so I just gave up on them...

Thanks for the help. 🙂
