Traffic violation procedures in Criminal and Misdemeanor Law ·
@ Lawrence Wood56 - I have one more question for you.
Is there actually a maximum deadline by which the Supreme Court is required to deliver its ruling?
I received my decision from the District Court nearly six months after the Supreme Court had already reached its verdict. Surely, that isn't an excessively long wait, is it?

@ crimsonsailor7: It isn’t that I haven’t attempted to follow this thread; I actually managed to make it through about fifteen pages before the sheer weight of everyone trying to outsmart one another became too much to bear...

To be perfectly clear, my question remains quite simple: what is the actual deadline for paying a fine if the notice itself fails to specify one, and what kind of recourse does the government or whatever authority is involved have if I simply choose not to pay? Would they actually come knocking at my door to demand more, or is there some other bureaucratic maneuver? That is the level of directness I am looking for.

I find it rather curious why everything involving the law, attorneys, the courts, or even just a legal studies department has to be treated with such hushed, conspiratorial secrecy 🙂 (though I am reasonably certain this particular post will garner an endless stream of commentary on almost everything except the actual answer)🙂

The statute of limitations has expired again

So, back on August 11, 2006, I was speeding. I received a citation in the mail $167 along with the associated $37 fines.
I filed an appeal within the eight-day window.
I later received notice that my appeal had been escalated to the Supreme Court.
Then yesterday, November 10, 2008, I finally received a Supreme Court Ruling stating they are reducing part of my sentence—specifically, I’ll only receive one point on my license under Section 253, Paragraph 1 of the Misdemeanor Act—but I still have to pay the $167 fines since I am technically at fault.

Question1: I have never been called in for any kind of hearing; was I actually supposed to attend one?
Question 2: This ruling doesn't specify a deadline for when I need to settle these $500+ payments$37. What is the actual cutoff?
Question 3: Do I have the right to appeal this decision again, and if so, on what grounds? I read earlier in this thread that sometimes a court realizes a case has expired and just arbitrarily assigns a date from five or six months ago to make it look valid. I suspect that might be exactly what happened in my case.

Bottom line: I don't want to pay. If I simply refuse, will they "come looking for me," and will the total amount increase?

P.S. I am looking for legal advice, not a lecture on morality.

Thanks!
