Traffic violation procedures

I racked up two violations in just one week. Using my phone while driving and parking in a restricted zone. Each fine is $167. 😢 Since I haven’t had any tickets in the last year, someone suggested I file an appeal to get them waived. How should this appeal be structured? What kind of excuse actually works?
