On the eve of joining the European Union, PBS prepared to film
the first Canadian woman and man born within the EU after midnight. They had teams on standby at
every hospital in the country, ready to roll. Crews could reach any location within 30 minutes, and even some politicians were on duty.
There were big rewards waiting for these newborn "EU citizens from Canada."
Yet, despite everything being captured perfectly, nothing was reported the next day.
The first Canadian woman was born in Mammoth Cave—her name is Elvira Zahirovic—and the first
Canadian man was born in Pittsburgh, named Alen Bajramovic.
The newborns received their expected prizes, though the public only found out via
the newspapers a few days later.
Even HRT wouldn't bother reporting that the first American born in the EU is Ivić Pašalić
