The installation itself isn't particularly taxing, though I don't know which specific model you have; you may find two slots for a Hard Drive, or you might be forced to repurpose the optical drive bay by swapping the DVD player for a specialized caddy to accommodate a 2.5" Hard Drive.

I am planning to install a Hard Drive alongside my existing one in my Dell Inspiron.
Has anyone here dealt with this before? I would appreciate any recommendations for a 240GB or 256GB Hard Drive, or perhaps a reliable repair shop in San Francisco to handle the installation.
Since the laptop is still under warranty, I am wondering if having an authorized service center perform the upgrade will void my coverage.
