So, I saw on the news today that they released a new MacBook Air with the M1 chip at basically the same price point, and now I'm sitting here wondering if it's worth heading down to the store to swap mine out for the latest thing. For context, I just use the laptop for personal stuff like browsing the web, nothing professional or heavy-duty...

Should I make the switch or just stick with what I have?

13-inch MacBook Air
Retina display with True Tone
1.1GHz quad-core 10th-generation Intel Core i5 processor, Turbo Boost up to 3.5GHz
8GB 3733MHz LPDDR4X memory
512GB SSD storage
Intel Iris Plus Graphics
Backlit Magic Keyboard
Touch ID
Force Touch trackpad
Two Thunderbolt 3 ports

Specs for the new one if I decide to trade up:
Apple M1 chip with 8‑core CPU, 8‑core GPU, and 16‑core Neural Engine
8GB unified memory
512GB SSD storage¹
Retina display with True Tone
Magic Keyboard
Touch ID
Force Touch trackpad
Two Thunderbolt / USB 4 ports

To someone like me who isn't tech-savvy, it all looks pretty much the same... 😁
I heard something about how the M1 doesn't have a fan, but then there's talk about the memory being different or something... I honestly have no clue, so I guess I'll just wait for some advice... 😁

A 27" display is pretty much the sweet spot for 1440p because 1080p can look incredibly grainy if you're sitting too close, given that 1080p at that size only hits about 81.59 ppi, whereas 1440p gives you a much smoother 108.79 ppi.

Well, great, that was actually what I was looking for... alright, point taken...

... when it comes to gaming, well... pretty much everything under the sun...
I don't really have a specific genre I stick to.
but I'd love for everything to feel smooth and responsive...

I'm planning on picking everything up around Black Friday, so these current prices aren't really my main concern right now.
for instance, I see used 3700x units going for maybe $240-$270 lately.
so I might try to snag a 3070, or maybe a new RX if I can even find one in stock somewhere.

honestly, from what I gather, jumping to 1440p gives me more pixels, but I lose out on the FPS.
(all my monitors have been 144Hz or higher)

that's why I mentioned earlier that for 1080p, a Ryzen 3600 paired with an RX 5700XT delivers decent frames and does the job just fine, but at 1440p the FPS drops significantly, which means I'd probably need a beefier GPU and a better processor too.

I'm starting to wonder if it's even worth making the jump to 1440p if the difference isn't actually that noticeable...
I haven't seen the two resolutions side-by-side in person, so I wanted to see what people who actually own that kind of setup think about it.
everything I see on YouTube doesn't even look all that impressive to me...

Hey everyone...
so, I'm looking for some perspective and maybe a bit of insight...

I'm putting together a new PC build, but I'm stuck on the monitor choice, which honestly throws my entire hardware plan into question...

It’ll mostly be used for gaming, probably about 90% of the time...

I've got my sights set on a 27-inch screen, but I can't decide if I should go with 1440p or just stick to 1080p...

For instance, if I opt for 1080p, I could probably get by with a Ryzen 3600 and an RX 5700, which feels like a solid enough pairing...
But a 1440p setup would require something much more substantial than that. So, I'm wondering if it's actually worth spending the extra cash for 1440p, and if you can even tell the difference at 27 inches...

Anyway, thanks for any input, and if I missed anything important, I'll just add it later...
