Where is the CMOS jumper located? in IT Support ·

And honestly, you hit the nail on the head there. 🙂 I’m absolutely exhausted—seriously, I feel like I’ve been run through a meat grinder lately—but my logic was pretty straightforward: if the system demands a password before it even lets me finish booting up, I fully expected that security requirement to carry over into this situation as well.

Oh man, please do! Save 🙂

Before you go out and drop money on a brand-new unit, I'd really suggest checking in with an authorized service center first—they might actually have a specific protocol for resetting things before they jump straight to replacing the entire motherboard.

Do you honestly think there's no point in me trying that workaround using the USB port?

I'm going to give that a shot right now—if this actually works, I will honestly owe you one!

Unfortunately, none of the troubleshooting steps I've tried have made a dent. The system isn't throwing any error codes when I type the wrong credentials, and I’m completely locked out—I can't boot from a CD, a USB drive, or even try to load Microsoft Windows. I even attempted that trick with the CMOS battery, leaving it out for well over 24 hours, but no luck there either. At this point, my only sliver of hope is if I can somehow locate those specific circuits and bridge them, assuming the BIOS password isn't synced up to some obscure internal component I don't know about. If that doesn't work, I guess I'll just have to start setting aside money for a brand-new laptop and face the reality of paying a heavy price for my own stupidity 🙂

Honestly, you’d be surprised how many people make questionable tech choices; I’ve been sitting here asking myself that exact same question for three days straight now.

I set a password for my BIOS, but now it’s refusing to accept it. To make matters worse, I’m not even getting that specific hash code that’s supposed to let me generate a new one. After I try three times, the screen just flashes a "System will halt!!" message and then everything goes completely dark.

The real headache here is that I can't even get into the BIOS, let alone attempt to boot up Microsoft Windows or anything else for that matter. I actually tried pulling the CMOS battery out and letting it sit for a few hours to see if that would reset things, but unfortunately, it didn't do a thing.

Is there any other way to go about cleaning the CMOS? If there actually is a method out there, what would it look like? I was wondering if something like shorting the circuit or a similar trick might work.

Hey everyone! Does anyone happen to know where I can find the CMOS jumper on my Dell Latitude? The Motherboard part number is mb a02 6050a2341701. Any help would be much appreciated!
