Jaws (1975) in Movies ·
So, I'm starting this thread to see what the modern forum cinephiles have to say about this one. From what I can gather, the internet seems to be showering it with nothing but praise.
I actually watched this movie when I was just a kid, and honestly, that terrifying dread of sharks hasn't left me—to this day, if I see anything that even remotely reminds me of a shark, I get the chills.
Upgrading to an SSD for a speed boost? in IT Support ·
Greetings from Chicago 👍

Well, I suppose that might become an option at some point down the road.
Would you actually go through the trouble of installing an operating system or a frequently used program on it right now?

Hello there!
I have a bit of a question regarding how I should manage my storage space between an SSD and a Hard Disk Drive.
A little background: I ended up picking up a MacBook because it’s the only machine capable of running software X.

Mostly, my setup consists of a 24GB SSD paired with a 1TB Hard Disk Drive.
Right now, both the operating system and software X—which is my main priority—are sitting on the Hard Disk Drive, leaving the SSD completely empty.

The OS takes up about 10GB, while software X needs roughly 20GB.

So, here is what I am wondering:
In an effort to optimize the actual performance of software X while I'm working, would it be smarter to install the OS on the SSD, or just the software itself? I can't fit both on the drive, unfortunately.
As it stands, my boot times are sluggish, applications take forever to launch, and so on. I suppose I could live with that, but my real goal is to speed up the actual operation of software X once it's running; I don't really care much about loading speeds.

To put it plainly, if I want to maximize the runtime efficiency of software X, should I prioritize the OS or the application for the SSD?

Thanks 👍

Hello there.
I have a quick question regarding how I should manage my storage space between different drives.
A bit of context: I ended up picking up a MacBook because it’s the only machine capable of running software X properly.

Mostly, my setup consists of a 24GB SSD paired with a 1TB Hard Disk Drive.
Right now, both the operating system and software X—which is my main priority—are sitting on the Hard Disk Drive, leaving the SSD completely empty.

The OS takes up about 10 GB, while software X requires roughly 20 GB.

So, here is what I am wondering:
If my goal is to maximize the performance of software X while I'm actually working in it, would it be more logical to move the OS to the SSD, or should I put software X there? I can't fit both, unfortunately.
At the moment, things are a bit sluggish—boot times are slow and apps take forever to launch. I suppose I can live with that, really; my main objective is just to speed up the actual operation of software X once it's running. I don't particularly care about loading speeds.

To reiterate: to get the best possible runtime performance out of software X, is it smarter to install the OS on the SSD or the program itself?

Thanks 👍

Hi there!
I have a quick question regarding how I should manage my storage space between an SSD and a traditional drive.
A little context: I ended up picking up a MacBook specifically because it’s the only machine that runs Program X properly.

Mostly, my setup consists of a 24GB SSD paired with a 1TB Hard Disk Drive.
Right now, both the OS and Program X—which is my main priority—are sitting on the Hard Disk Drive, leaving the SSD completely empty.

The operating system takes up about 10 GB, while Program X needs roughly 20 GB.

So, here is my dilemma:
If I want to optimize the actual performance of Program X while I'm working in it, would it be smarter to move the OS to the SSD, or just install Program X there? I can't fit both on the small drive.
As it stands, my boot times are sluggish and apps take forever to launch. I suppose I can live with that, though—my real goal is to speed up the responsiveness of Program X during active use; I don't really care much about loading speeds.

To recap, if the goal is maximizing the runtime efficiency of Program X, should I prioritize the OS or the program itself on the SSD?

Thanks 👍
Monitor buying guide (mega-thread) in Computer Peripherals ·
Timothy Kim60 said:Is this used, and what's the price tag? I’m assuming it’s pre-owned—I mean, 16:10 monitors aren't really a thing anymore, and you won't find them sitting on Best Buy's shelves. It's a decent enough monitor, provided the price is reasonable.

At the end of the day, there isn't some magic marketing label that makes a monitor "eye-friendly"—it's more about subjective experience, I suppose. The real question is what specifically bothers you about your current setup—is it too cramped, maybe the brightness is just too harsh, or something else entirely? In terms of ergonomics and raw specs, that HP unit is perfectly fine.

The only thing I can actually pin down is that my current monitor feels way too bright.
I can't really point to anything else specific, though I figured there might be some technical parameters—things you wouldn't notice at first glance—that impact eye strain.
I'm not exactly a tech expert, so I can't give you any deep insights, but it seems like the light is just too intense for me, even when I have it turned all the way down to the minimum setting.

At the end of the day, there isn't some magical marketing gimmick that makes a monitor "easy on the eyes"—it really comes down to what specifically bothers you about your current setup. Is it too cramped? Maybe the brightness is just too dim? As far as ergonomics and raw specs go, that HP is perfectly fine.

Yeah, it's a used monitor. $233 is the price.
Peter Green, I'll give it some thought.

Thanks to both of you. 👍

Hey everyone, I’ve been struggling with a monitor that’s honestly pretty terrible—it’s been causing me some serious eye strain lately. I decided to head down to a local electronics store the other day to find an upgrade, and I specifically asked the clerk to recommend something that wouldn't wreck my eyes. He handed me this spec sheet, so I was hoping someone here who actually knows their stuff could weigh in on whether this is genuinely eye-friendly (or at least, not a total disaster) 👍

Dental Assistant Job Openings in Dentistry & Oral Hygiene ·
Good afternoon.
I went to my dentist today for a filling, and I was assigned an older female practitioner.
I’ve seen her before—they rotate staff based on whoever is available—but today, things took a turn that made me feel quite uncomfortable.

To provide some context, she is an older woman—definitely more than twenty years my senior.
While she was working on my tooth today, she leaned in quite closely, pressing her chest against my head area 🙄
We have had appointments together in the past and nothing like this has ever occurred. I am honestly unsure if the specific procedure required such positioning, and I find myself wondering if it was actually necessary at all.

Perhaps this sounds a bit silly to mention, but I felt genuinely awkward about it. 🤷
Is it socially acceptable to tell her that it bothers me, or should I just go ahead and request a different dentist altogether?

For what it's worth, it was just a routine filling on a molar.
How do I install iOS on any device? in IT Support ·
Good afternoon.
A little while back, I was chatting with some developers who had actually ported iOS onto a pair of glasses—they were basically running experiments to see if they could turn standard eyewear into something genuinely high-tech.

Then there was this one company that supposedly integrated iOS into a lounge cushion, adding sensors for things like heart rate and body temperature.

I assume that’s pretty much how smartwatches came to be, too.

Anyway, does anyone happen to have a reliable resource that breaks down the actual process behind this?
Specifically, how one might go about installing iOS onto a non-standard device.

Thanks,
How to build your own custom keyboard in Computer Peripherals ·
Are you being sarcastic, or what? 🤔

Look, I just want a keyboard with a handful of buttons—that’s really all I'm after.
There are plenty of tutorials out there showing you how to build an entire custom setup from scratch, but those specialized components at the end can easily run you upwards of $200.
I don't quite get why the price tag is so high, and honestly, I'm wondering if anyone has posted a more straightforward, budget-friendly tutorial somewhere.
How to build your own custom keyboard in Computer Peripherals ·
Hello there.

In principle, I am looking to build a small macro pad—just a little keyboard with a handful of buttons.
I have been scouring the internet for tutorials on how to pull this off, only to find that the finished products people are making end up costing upwards of $200. 😲

Honestly, I just don't quite grasp the math—how can a DIY project reach those heights when I can order an entire, fully functional keyboard from China for maybe $5?
What I need is nothing more than a basic little setup with a few keys, and that should be it.

Could someone perhaps explain why these tutorials seem to lead to such expensive outcomes? I would appreciate a bit more insight into the logic behind it all.

Thanks.
