Just grab me a cold one and get everyone else a drink.
Drew Lee9 is picking up the tab—he spent the whole day yesterday running his mouth.
The guy practically drove himself into debt.
velveteagle8 said:It’s just like those taverns you see in those old Western ghost towns.
Somewhere at dusk, I drift slowly into town.
I watch everything from under the brim of my hat, one hand resting lightly on the reins, the other ready to grab my Colt at a moment's notice—just gently stroking the mane of my one loyal companion.
There isn't a soul in sight, yet you feel a thousand eyes tracking your every move.
A prayerful silence hangs over the place, broken only by the persistent creaking of an old weather vane on the edge of town.
The first thing to greet me is a scrawny three-legged dog that suddenly darts out from under my horse's hooves and bolts across the dusty street.
Finally, I reach the center of town where, sandwiched between a locked-up bank and a failed barbershop, I spot a sign for a Poor Man's Tavern.
I figured my luck might be turning; after 19 days of riding and sleeping under the stars with nothing but a rock for a pillow, a hot bath and a bed sounded like heaven.
I pull up, dismount slowly, and give a quick glance behind me to see if I can find the source of all those stares before shaking them off along with the dust.
I check the pump... it works. The water comes out yellow and smelling like a dog, but it's water.
I let the horse have a drink and tie him loosely to a nearby hitching post.
Then, with a steady, rhythmic pace, I approach the tavern doors.
They are slightly ajar, fluttering in the warm desert breeze that is about to turn into a biting cold wind as night falls.
I reach the entrance, stop, and then, driven by some strange impulse, I step inside.
The first thing I see is an old, battered piano; even from the doorway, I could tell the D key and a few others in the lower octave were missing.
I take a few more steps, look toward the bar—empty. Look to the left—four vacant tables with an odd number of chairs. Then I look to the corner: Drew Lee9.
When our eyes met, there was this heavy, hypnotic stillness—as if he were a completely harmless man existing outside of time, yet fully aware of everything happening around him.
I tip my hat in greeting; he responds with a nod of his eyebrows and takes a long pull of whatever he's drinking.
I ask if there's anyone around who can serve a drink and a place to sleep.
Drew Lee9 sizes me up again, looking at me as if he knows things about myself I haven't even realized yet. He takes another sip, shorter and sharper this time, and says:
"Hello, stranger. Name's don Francisko Long Play, and everyone else here is living in a black-and-white movie."

velveteagle8 said:Well, she isn't looking at me; she's looking at you.
I'd rather she stare at a corner instead.
velveteagle8 said:Maybe she’s just a bit revoltirana
She completely ignored the tavern and the guests
Drew Lee9, you're basically that guy sitting at the corner table that nobody notices—the one who's always there, watching everything unfold between sips from a glass that's perpetually half-full. When the brawl finally breaks out, he's the only one who can tell the cops exactly who threw the first punch and how it actually went down. 😁
In honor of that... go ahead and drink to DJ all day long. I'll settle the tab with the manager later.
velveteagle8 said:This is pretty underwhelming
Looks like even the budget crowds will skip this tavern

I just popped a pill and called it a day. Spent fifteen bucks on a drink, which was barely enough to get me through half a nap.🥳
