GPU Buying Guide - (Read first post) in Desktops ·
Has anyone ever dealt with this shop before? It's an RX 580 8 GB Sapphire Nitro plus a brand new graphics card—some kind of Easter promo deal.

So, I’m looking at these AMD cards, and I'm genuinely confused—what's actually the deal here? One is priced higher and boasts a chip clock of 1340MHz, while the cheaper one sits at 1257MHz. To be clear, they're both the Sapphire Nitro + RX 580 4. Why would anyone pay more for that tiny bump? Also, after spending way too much time digging through forums, I've convinced myself that 4GB of VRAM is plenty for 1080p, whereas you'd need 6GB if you're pushing 4K. Anyone here actually have hands-on experience with this, or am I just talking to myself? Is that even true...

Hey,

Is there actually any real difference between these two cards, besides the price tag? I spent some time digging through the specs on http://sapphirenitro.sapphiretech.co...specifications and honestly, I didn't see a damn thing. But then I check https://www.techpowerup.com/gpu-spec...olaris-20.g807, and it claims the RX 580 4G uses the Polaris 20xl, which is totally different from what sapphiretech.com
says.

thanks.

Look, I’m fully aware that an Intel Core i3-6100 isn't some powerhouse meant for high-end gaming. It’s definitely not top-tier even by today's standards, but you can only work with what you've got, right? If I want to actually upgrade this rig properly—meaning pairing a solid GPU with an i7—I’m looking at spending almost $1333.

Right now, my only priority is making sure this g4560 can actually handle the load, and honestly, I'll worry about everything else later. They're offering 36 monthly installments through Diners right now, so I’m thinking about picking something up if it makes sense. $500-$667 It's just that I refuse to ever throw my money down the drain...

Hey everyone,

I'm looking for some advice here. What kind of GPU would actually make sense for this setup? I'm planning on upgrading to an Intel Core i5 down the road if the opportunity pops up—assuming I don't just scrap the whole rig before then. Right now, I'm running a Pentium G4560, 8GB of RAM, an FSP Fortron 500W power supply, a HyperX drive, and a Gigabyte GA-B250M-D3H motherboard. My monitor is a Dell UltraSharp monitor.

Thanks,

I finally pulled it off, but honestly? What was even the point? All those hours I spent grinding were basically for nothing, because now I’m right back where I started—staring at a screen knowing absolutely nothing except for the damn manufacturing date...

Look, I know you can do this with TVs—I’ve messed around with the service menus on GE and Apple sets before. Once you actually get into that side of things, you finally see what you're really working with, like the actual panel specs or the total hours it's been running. You can even tweak some settings, assuming you actually have a clue what you're doing. So, I figured the same logic would apply to monitors.

Quick question!! Is there actually any way to check how many hours a monitor has been running??

🤦I sent back my Dell UltraSharp. Seriously, this monitor shines like a freaking stadium floodlight. I tried everything—every setting imaginable—to dial down that killer brightness, but nothing worked! I managed to tone it down slightly using Windows Night, but even then, it was way too intense compared to my old Dell Monitor TFT... I mean, do other IPS-enthusiasts deal with this much glare??? If this is the standard, it’s gotta be a health hazard.

Returned my Dell UltraSharp. Seriously, this thing is bright enough to serve as a stadium floodlight. I tried every single trick in the book to dial down that killer brightness, but nothing worked! I managed to take the edge off a little bit using Windows Night, but even then, it was way too intense compared to my old Dell Monitor, that TFT panel... I mean, do all other IPS-enthusiasts deal with this level of glare??? If they do, we’ve got a serious health problem on our hands here.

You’ve got this happening in San Diego

Thanks for the input, but I actually picked up a Dell UltraSharp from Links. The box claims it's 76Hz, but honestly, it feels sketchy... if you check the official specs on the manufacturer's site, they list it at 60Hz. If that's the case, I'm taking it back tomorrow to swap it for a standard 60Hz model that won't rip me off. Does anyone here actually know anything about this specific monitor? Is it even worth having?

Look... just don't even bother looking at TN panels. Go with IPS/75Hz, and grab one with G-Sync if you're running any newer Intel graphics card.

Is there actually a massive difference between 60Hz and 75Hz? I found a monitor online, but the local Best Buy in San Diego doesn't even stock this specific model. So, here's my question. Is it worth waiting a few days for shipping, or should I just grab whatever 60Hz model they have on the shelf right now? I'm guessing for browsing the web or watching streams, it won't matter much, except maybe for gaming. Looking for some answers. Thanks..

Looks like the crypto world is absolutely cratering, at least for right now. If this keeps up, we might actually see GPU prices finally start to normalize...

Hey there, tech experts,
What’s the consensus on this Asus G1504 card? After you factor in all the taxes and shipping, we're looking at roughly$467. Is there actually anything better out there in the US market for that kind of cash? I mean, what category does this even fall into? I realize it's some obscure brand, but can we actually make any educated guesses based on these specs?
Thanks.

Newegg offers free assembly and shipping too. You just register the Zotac card on their website to snag that 5-year warranty.

If you really need to, you could even strip these $20 off (either from the motherboard or maybe 50 from the case, but I wouldn't recommend it)

So does that 5-year warranty mean I'm not allowed to open the case, swap out the thermal paste, or even clean the dust out of the PC?

The GTX 1060 isn't going to be anywhere to be found, at least not until the end of August. Everything just went to hell because of this absolute madness surrounding crypto mining.

Can someone please enlighten me here? Why is everyone obsessed with the GTX 1060 specifically when it comes to mining crypto compared to everything else?
I've overheard some chatter about how there are supposedly these special cards built just for that kind of work, and that you can only get them through certain middlemen.
Thanks.
Best external hard drives to buy right now? in Computer Peripherals ·
Hey, darkowl72.
I tried running a defrag, but it was a total bust. I have no clue what's going on. It starts the disk analysis, maybe hits 2% after a second or two, and then just dies. Every single time. It keeps trying again, failing again... just a constant loop of nothingness. What gives?

Thanks for the quick reply, darkowl72.
While I’m sitting here looking at my PC, playback seems smooth enough, but honestly, I’ve already lost count of how many times I’ve formatted this drive and nothing changes. It's frustrating. So, I'm going to follow your advice and run a defrag. I'll get back to you once I see if there's actually any difference...
Cheers.
