If you count No Country for Old Men as Neo-noir, then it’s my number one. Same goes for the rest of the Coen brothers' work. As far as the classics go, Chinatown takes the top spot. In my opinion, it's Nicholson's best role and Polanski's best film.
I didn't actually have an issue with the pacing; I wouldn't say it was boring. My real problem is that the movie is just shallow and relies entirely on cheap shock value.
Aside from the atmosphere, I don't see any other quality in this movie.
Definitely one of the standout thriller-dramas from the 90s. Honestly, though, a movie like this never hits quite the same way the first time you see it—mostly because once you know that twist that keeps you glued to your seat, the magic is gone. But if it’s been years and the plot is a blur, it’s absolutely worth a rewatch.
