Budget gaming PC build for the kids in Desktops ·
Thanks... would this SSD work for me? I think I'd actually prefer to go with the 240 GB version instead.

Hello again,
I didn't jump on this build immediately because I was holding out hope for some Black Friday deals or maybe a Christmas sale... but now? Well, Christmas is right around the corner, and my kid is expecting a new computer for the holidays. I really don't have time to wait around anymore, and to make matters worse, the motherboard from this specific list isn't available at ADM anymore. Does anyone have a recommendation for a different board that would fit this setup? Or perhaps there's an entirely different combination available now that might perform better?
My son is 12 years old and mostly plays Fortnite for now. (He's currently struggling through it on a weak laptop that barely manages to run it).
As for payment, I don't mind—cash works fine. My main priority is having the whole thing pre-assembled; I definitely don't want to tackle the building process myself.
I also want to pick up a decent, budget-friendly 24" monitor. My total target budget, including the monitor, is around $6,200, $2100 (though I could stretch to $6,500 if those extra $67 actually provide a significant boost to the performance 🙂), but I won't complain if everything fits within $2000 😁
Thanks!

That sounds great! But how does the process actually work? Do I just hand them my specs and they build the whole thing for me, or should I buy all the individual parts and put it together myself?

I'm looking at somewhere around $1500, maybe up to $5,000 max.

Hey there!
I don't want to clutter things up by starting a whole new thread since this is pretty similar to our previous discussion (building a PC for the kids, and right now it's all about Fortnite), but I'm working with a slightly tighter budget this time. Are these pre-built bundles on sale at Home Depot actually worth the cash? Or does anyone have a better recommendation for a similar price point?
Thanks!
My computer is acting weird! in Hardware ·
Hey there!
I’ve run into a bit of a weird one (at least in my book 🙂) with my PC, and I was wondering if anyone here might have a clue what's going on.
Basically, everything runs perfectly fine under normal circumstances. However, if there’s a sudden power outage or any kind of unexpected shutdown, the machine refuses to boot back up (even after the power comes back on 😁). It won't show any signs of life at all—no sounds, nothing. The power button just flashes green for a split second and then dies. Normally, the light stays solid green while I'm actually using it.
After playing around with the cables, I noticed something strange: if I unplug the Ethernet cable, the computer boots up without any issues. Once it's running, I can plug the network cable back in and everything works fine... until the next power surge hits and the whole cycle repeats itself 🤔
Just to give some context, this is an older setup running an Intel Core Duo CPU, 2 GB of RAM, and macOS.

Thanks in advance for the help!

Thanks for the quick reply, stormywolf39! I’m not really one to go hunting for used gear, so I’ll probably just grab a brand-new ATI 5670 instead.

Hey there!
I can see there's a group here that really knows their stuff when it comes to building rigs. If you don't mind, could I grab some quick advice?
I'm currently running a Dell OptiPlex with integrated graphics. I wouldn't call myself a hardcore gamer, but I do jump into a game every now and then. I was wondering if anyone could recommend a decent graphics card that won't break the bank—maybe something in the $75 range?
The CPU is an Intel Core i3, LGA 1151, with a core speed of 1197 MHz.
The motherboard is an MSI 2A78h.
RAM is at 2 GB DDR2.
I'm not sure if this matters, but I'm still using an old Samsung 17 inch CRT monitor.

Thanks a ton!
Hey everyone!
I was hoping I could grab some advice on picking up a new graphics card. I recently picked up a Dell OptiPlex from Metro that has integrated graphics. I wouldn't call myself a hardcore gamer by any means, but I do enjoy playing a few games every now and then. Does anyone have a recommendation for a decent card that won't break the bank? I'm looking to stay under about $75.
