I’ve gone ahead and put together an Excel spreadsheet to help track mileage for the 2018 season. You can grab the file over on my blog at Marquee New York.

If you have any ideas on how to make it better, please don't hold back—I'm all ears.

Apple Watch Ultra vs Apple Watch Ultra in Cycling ·
So, I find myself at a bit of a crossroads: should I pull the trigger on the Apple Watch Ultra, or would it be wiser to stick with the Apple Watch Series 3 equipped with sapphire glass? Which one truly holds the crown here? And really, does the jump from the Series 3 to the Apple Watch Ultra actually offer enough of an upgrade to justify the leap?

Greetings,
I find myself caught in a bit of a dilemma, torn between deciding on the Apple Watch Ultra vs the Apple Watch Ultra, and I could certainly use some expert guidance. Given that they’re hovering around the same price point, I’m curious to hear your thoughts on how they actually stack up when you get them on your wrist? Specifically, I'm looking for the lowdown on their core functionalities—things like GPS accuracy, the altimeter, and their ability to track various athletic pursuits, though my primary focus would be cycling performance and related metrics.

Thanks in advance for any insight you can offer.

Jeffrey Hall5 said:Last year's spreadsheet was much cleaner and easier to navigate (at least if you ask me). This current one feels a bit cluttered with too much data shoved into one view. That's actually why I just updated the year on last year's version, stripped out February 29th, and I'm still using it for 2017. Honestly, the 2016 layout gives me everything I actually care about: total mileage, total hours, and number of rides. For my purposes, it’s more than enough.
Regardless, I really appreciate the effort you're putting in to build such a functional tool for tracking rides. I also enjoy reading your blog; you manage to gather so many useful tips and insights all in one convenient spot.

Thanks. I always try to tweak things a little so the whole process doesn't become a monotonous chore, you know? 🙂

I actually attempted to include average speed and pace per mile right under the date alongside the distance and duration, but the screen became an absolute mess of numbers. To save my eyesight, I decided to split them into two separate tabs instead.
And thanks for the kind words about the blog. My whole goal here is to promote cycling as a fantastic way to stay active and enjoy life, so whenever I stumble upon a great article, how could I possibly justify not sharing it with the rest of you?

Jeffrey Hall5 said:Downloaded. I'll give it a test run as soon as the weather clears up enough to actually get out on the road. Regardless, thanks for putting in the work and being so selfless 👍

Thanks. You can even test it out without hitting the road first; that way, if there's some glaring error I need to fix, I can get it sorted before the season really kicks into high gear. 🙂

As always, I’m more than happy to hear what you all think—every suggestion or bit of feedback is genuinely appreciated.

Here is the latest iteration 🙂 I caught a few details floating around in Chris Kelly16's BikeLog that really needed to be accounted for, so I’ve integrated them into this version.

P.S. ...it feels somewhat like I might have posted this already, so please forgive me if I'm being a bit redundant... 🙂

How could you possibly be an interruption? Every single suggestion or idea is more than welcome.

Ryan Thomas4 said:It isn't actually that complicated, 😉 if you just use
=cell with mileage/cell with time/24
for instance; for April 16, 2014, the formula would look like this:
=C121/D121/24

I understand the theory behind it—you know, distance divided by time—but it doesn't quite work out using the method you described. I did some digging online and discovered that you need to utilize the INT function to get it right. On top of that, I went ahead and layered in an IF statement to ensure the fields remain blank until actual values are entered. Does that make sense?

Ryan Thomas4 said:It wouldn't be the worst idea if the average speed in the Data input sheet were to calculate itself automatically, would it? 🤔

I might just give that a shot myself—assuming I can actually figure out how to pull it off, of course. Thanks for the suggestion.

So, I’ve gone ahead and put together a custom spreadsheet in Microsoft Excel to track mileage. All you really have to do is plug your distance into the Data input sheet, and the rest of the heavy lifting is handled automatically by the formulas. Does it work? Is it overkill? I’m open to any suggestions, critiques, or even a bit of praise if you think it hits the mark.
