Or maybe you ignored that forty-five-year ban and showed up at the precinct anyway. I kept going regardless. Or were you in Lithuania, or Glasgow? Now you're at San Siro? Look, sorry, but I have no interest in heading down to Miami. Go support the Boston Celtics instead; as far as futsal goes, I haven't even been to a local pickup game.
But I was at every protest. I go wherever people need me, whenever the group calls and things get heavy.
But enough fights and years have piled up, and I just don't have the stomach for it anymore, unlike you and your twenty-something energy.
Who are you even calling out, and why? It never crossed my mind to target anyone older when I was twenty. Or rather, fourteen, since that was my first time traveling to New York for an away game. Your issue seems to be that you don't respect your elders, yet you expect us to back you up.
So, let me ask you this: where were you when the Bad Boys were staging their first big transport?
You weren't even born yet, were you? And whose fault is that? It's your fault because you weren't there, whereas I was. I couldn't care less that you weren't born. And have some respect for the dead. In any decent American tradition, you speak well of the departed.
Or you don't speak of them at all.
If you felt personally attacked by my post, then you missed the point entirely. No, I wasn't sitting in a cell with you in Paris, nor was I riding shotgun during a run to Romania. Obviously. Similarly, you weren't in the trenches with me, and I don't have the same mileage as you two. Nor do I expect people with decades under their belts to carry the exact same weight as someone in their mid-twenties.
Respect within the group is earned, not given by age. Whether it's someone like you at forty-five or a kid at twenty-five, being older doesn't mean anything to me. In every internal conflict I've seen, it's often the older generation that causes the fractures—one side follows them, the other stays true. I only respect those who steer the group toward better days and who actually stick around.
That applies to both the living and the dead. If those fifteen poor souls died on the road during an away trip, I wouldn't say a kind word about them either, because they would have betrayed the cause just like the others did.
