I think I just need a basic, straightforward router, right?

The thing is, I don't really have a traditional "ISP." I’m working out on a ship where the internet is just provided via an Ethernet cable... no Wi-Fi whatsoever. And since I am a massive couch potato after pulling a 12-hour shift, I’d much rather just crash in bed and surf on my phone. Plus, I have this nagging feeling that the connection might actually feel snappier on my mobile than on my laptop.

So, my only real move is to set up some kind of local setup in my cabin to broadcast that connection as a Wi-Fi signal...

Hey there,
What kind of gear am I looking at if I want to set up a local hotspot, assuming my only way into the web is through an Ethernet jack?
I need to get my phone online, and from what I’ve gathered, trying to force a standard network card to broadcast a Wi-Fi signal is pretty much a pipe dream—I saw one of those DIY tutorials online once, but the comment section was basically just a graveyard of failed attempts and skepticism.

Do I really have to shell out for some massive, bulky Wi-Fi router, or is there a tiny little "travel" access point out there where I can just plug in the Ethernet cable and call it a day?
