Issues with DDR3 memory on ASUS motherboard
in Desktops ·
I took a look at that compatibility list, but honestly, those lists aren't gospel. They don't list every single stick of RAM out there, so I was already crossing my fingers hoping this one would work even if it wasn't mentioned.
From what I can see on the board, there isn't a dedicated memory selector switch. Based on what I've read on various tech forums, people claim it should auto-detect everything without needing manual tweaks. If it fails to boot, you just hit the Reset Button and hope it picks it up then.
I'm starting to worry that the issue really boils down to this being single-sided memory (using those 8x512kb chips). I actually considered flashing the BIOS, but I checked their official site and I'm already running the latest version available.
darkowl72, thanks for the help. I think we finally pinpointed why this ancient board is acting up. The fix is pretty straightforward: either find some double-sided RAM or just buy a new motherboard altogether. Honestly, a new board is probably the smarter move since this thing has been giving me headaches for a year straight—problems I’ve never encountered in all my time building PCs. So, if you happen to know anything else, darkowl72, or if anyone else has an idea, let me know. To make matters worse, the board itself seems fine when using DDR2. My HW Monitor shows the +12V rail is sitting at +1.25V, and the BIOS reports a solid 12.43V. Even weirder? The board temperatures are reading -14, -1, and 26 degrees Celsius. Does anyone know why I shouldn't just start a new thread about this specific board's quirks? WTF?? Just to be clear, the system runs perfectly fine and stays stable; those weird sensor readings don't bother me, I just want to understand what the hell is going on.
