Anyway, I'll buy you a beer—totally unrelated to the PC stuff—if you're up for it.
Maybe tomorrow morning? Or just shoot me a DM with your info.
If anyone happens to be from Indianapolis, I'll buy them a cold Budweiser ;-)
Sure thing. I'm based out of Indianapolis, so it's no big deal to swing by New York City.
So, you're actually running the shop yourself?
Thanks everyone, I think that’s the plan. I guess a 400W power supply might be enough?
And I actually have a new 1TB hard drive at home, so I can save some money there too.
Thanks again!!!
Best,
That sounds great then!
I was just thinking about the price, since the GT450 is around $133.
Hey everyone,
I've been following this interesting thread because I’m currently stuck in that same dilemma—do I try to squeeze more life out of my current rig, or just bite the bullet and buy something new?
My current setup is about 7 years old now. It's an older mid-range build, if I recall correctly.
MB: Asus p5QPL-AM (socket 775, G41 chipset)
proc: Intel Core2 duo E7300 (2.66)
4 GB RAM
Graf: Nvidia GT240 (not great, though it still manages to run some things)
Case and power supply combo.
I think I could maybe swap in a used Quad processor that the board supports.
I'd also grab another 4 GB of RAM.
For the GPU, maybe a GT450, though I'm not sure if I could go any higher than that.
As for the power supply—I guess it might handle those upgrades, but I doubt it could support a much beefier graphics card.
Does it make sense to drop maybe $100$500 on these upgrades, or should I just sell this thing for parts and put together a new build in the $350-$400$1333 range that could hopefully last me another few years?
Thanks so much!
Best,
