Congress said:Glass, huh? Why does everything have to become some sacred sacrament in the punk scene?

Did it ever occur to you that we might actually, genuinely love that band? 🙄

Susan Clark10 said:Hey, what does the phrase 'in a flash' actually mean? There's this one song with that title I've been listening to for years and I still haven't quite figured it out...

"Zarathustra" and "Megapunk" aren't punk, but the goblin, man! Now that is pure, unadulterated anarcho-activism...👍

🙂

Sorry, I just happen to love Idiot. 🙂

The top three things I've learned from fifteen years of listening to music:

1. A song is never "too fast"
2. The bass is never "too loud"
3. Nothing is ever "too pop"

Susan Clark10 said:Meh... the only things I actually like on that album are the tracks 🙂 ... alright, fine, maybe 'Girlfriend' and 'I'm Humming' too... the rest is just 👎

That's just because you're living in some tiny rural town. 😬

Robin Booth said:I don't know, I'd say Stakla is definitely a forum phenomenon...

Between you and dmj being here, clearly Stakla hasn't won you over. Then again, I know plenty of people outside this bubble who follow them just as closely as I do or Nicholas Perez33. So, calling them a "forum phenomenon" doesn't really hold water... 🙂

Sure, 999 has a handful of hits, but calling them legendary? Not quite. But hey, everyone’s got their own version of Steve McQueen... 🙂

And let's not even get started on Shamu. 😁

Since we're already being accused of fueling the fire in that other thread, I might as well mention that exactly three years ago today, Joe Strummer passed away. So, let it all go to hell...

"feta" is better, but "Scum" is more significant, original, and charming... That's why I swapped out the word "album" for "CD" and included the "feta" release with the full "Scum" as a bonus. 😳

Alex Rogers91, they’re all hits, but unfortunately the only true masterpiece is "All Kindsa Girls," mostly because Lou Reed once gave it a nod (and he never wrote anything remotely that good)...

Alex Scott22, you really ought to avoid Vanian's stuff from that era at all costs, but damn, music is king. My Elois! 🙂

My Top 3 grindcore CDs:

3. Nasum "human 2.0"
2. Terrorizer "World Downfall"
1. Napalm Death Scum + Enslavement to Obliteration

Shut up! You idiot! 😠

Every single one of The Damned is the best of The Damned. 🙂

(except maybe "Anything")

Alex Scott22 Asks:
Yes and no... 🙂

The younger crowd is really starting to claim their territory... For instance, when you hear Teenage Kicks playing out somewhere in New York City, they still command that level of respect. They have a certain status... 🙂

Sure, but how many of those same people are actually out there streaming His Good Looking Girlfriend? Or listening to anything that isn't Teenage Kicks?... 😉

It’s a phenomenon similar to what happened with The Real Kids... A brilliant band, yet remembered as nothing more than a one-hit wonder due to a series of unfortunate circumstances...

Ha, I just caught what Kevin Chavez3 posted over on The Undertones thread... 🙂

Honestly, you’re just talking nonsense today. Calling 999 the kings of the universe? Claiming some kid is a glass icon? Saying The Smiths are only conditionally listenable? Or that Siouxsie and Joy Division are boring? Are you intentionally attacking every single sacred cow just to stir the pot? Please... spare me, you punk... 😬

Thin Lizzy will eventually get their turn, but I have questions about this first.

Sandra Chase16, you should download this track and see how long it keeps your interest. To my ears, it captures the whole vibe of "Enough Rope," along with plenty of their earlier stuff like "Complete Control" and even some later tracks from "Death or Glory."

Forget the metaphysics for a second. I want to ask those of you with more experience and better taste: if "All The Young Dudes" is truly a masterpiece, should I actually bother collecting this band's discography? I’ve been browsing AllMusic, and it seems like grabbing the "Young Dudes" album along with the one immediately before and after might be a smart move, but I'm open to suggestions...

To Sabbath sound... it feels almost pre-Renaissance to me. 😬 Just stone-cold ancient.

My top 3 biggest letdowns regarding my favorite bands' "originality":

1. NoMeansNo—I remember sitting in the passenger seat of my buddy's Ford, hearing Minutemen 2. Sonic Youth for the first time...
2. Sonic Youth, once I actually heard Neu! (just yesterday 😳).
3. 3. The Clash, after discovering "All The Young Dudes" by Mott The Hoople.

My Top 3 overlooked '77 US bands:

3. Johnny moped 2. Eater
2. Eater
1. The Adverts

(Or maybe just a list to impress Alex Scott22 😁 though this is my actual take)

Sandra Chase16, you actually have a thing for "Zastava"?! 🙏 🙏 🙏

Well... now that stormyviper11 is jumping on my list of most irritating signatures and actually trying to argue against it point by point. 😬

Bands like ban smoking—not just the first two, but all four (though I’d say "Sabah with Satan" is their weakest link?)—as well as Bulldozer, too. But this list is what it is.

Mind you, if I were putting this together in a different headspace, "Walter" could easily find his way onto it. 🙂

I was thinking specifically about American bands, though even if I expanded my scope to the entire US, I suspect the list would remain largely unchanged... Perhaps I should toss in "national pet" or "Song Machine" somewhere. 😍

Owie !!!! I feel like I'm being suffocated (honestly, I might prefer it if the only thing I had to hear from some kid was drums and constant "zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz" noise). Seven didn't even make it... Setting up a brand new drum kit at half past eleven on Wednesday was a total disaster. 🙄

@L: "Megapunk" is sterile?! Between "Bozin," "The decline of the West," "But it isn't over yet," and "Brilliance"—you call that sterile? You've got no soul... 🙂

@Narandjasti: Yeah, maybe there should have been a dedicated punk movement, a separate alternative list. I just couldn't bring myself to do it.
