Kyle Johnson2 said:I will provide a list of questions. Creating a Chart in Excel can be quite a steep learning curve for beginners once you move past the basics. You really need to master the fundamentals of how to build a Chart first.

- Chart in Excel 2007

From there, try searching Google for "negative value on Chart data Bar."

None of this helps me even slightly, but fine, thanks for the effort.

Greetings.

I am struggling with the specifics of this Chart. Specifically, I am having trouble implementing the small bars alongside the lines, ensuring the values align correctly with their respective sides, and applying a two-color conditional formatting scheme.

Could someone assist by setting up the core components and uploading an XLS file for me to review?🙂

Greetings,

I am looking for guidance on how to construct this specific scenario using sparklines. My goal is to replicate the exact layout shown in the attached image.

Kyle Johnson2 said:The example you provided was built using dedicated graphic design software. Take a look at this example.

Excel isn't designed for high-end 3D charting. If you want to craft a more sophisticated 3D chart with custom coloring, you'll need to dig into the specific tools found under the Design, Layout, and Format tabs available in Excel 2007 once a chart is selected.

For truly bespoke, "professional grade" 3D graphics, you really need specialized software.

Just search online for "free software to create 3D charts."

Excellent, thanks for the tip. I eventually managed to pull off what I needed within Excel.

What about PowerPoint? Any advice regarding advanced formatting or presentation techniques? Do you recommend any specific websites?

I managed to find what I needed in the meantime. Much appreciated, Kyle. You're a lifesaver. 🙂

On a different note, I have a question regarding data visualization. How does one create charts like these within Excel? Which specific add-in or module would you recommend for this type of output:

I am looking for a way to create a variance analysis chart directly within a cell. Ideally, the values would shift between positive and negative, with the color changing automatically to reflect the direction. I want this integrated into the cell itself rather than being a separate floating chart, much like what is shown in the example link here.

Does anyone happen to know how to do this? 😢
Greetings,

I am looking for guidance on how to replicate this specific variance analysis chart. I want the values to reflect whether they are positive or negative, with the color shifting automatically based on that direction. Most importantly, I need this functionality contained directly within the cell itself rather than as a standalone floating chart. As you can see in the provided example,

Thanks a lot. I wouldn't call myself an Excel rookie, but this one was news to me. I owe you one 🙂
Kyle Johnson2 said:There are several factors at play here. You really ought to upload the file for us to review so we can see the actual issue; right now, we are just guessing. I suggest scrubbing any sensitive data first, then simulating the data length and structure within those problematic columns or cells.

On a side note: you might be dealing with merged cells or some specific cell formatting. Try switching everything over to General formatting.

Does anyone have any thoughts on this? It’s quite important to me.
Greetings, everyone.

I am currently working with an Excel file where the column widths are locked down. For instance, I cannot even double-click the boundary between columns A and B to auto-fit the cell to my preferred size.

I would appreciate some guidance here. This has become quite urgent, and I simply don't have the luxury of time to manually resize everything one by one.

Much appreciated.
@fooreest I gave it another shot and ran into the same error message. It’s telling me not to use an equals sign or a minus sign, or to avoid preceding it with a single quotation mark. Apparently, there’s a specific character they want, but all I see is a single dash. I can't quite wrap my head around what it's looking for, but frankly, it doesn't matter—I managed to get the task finished regardless.
Benjamin Wilson7 said:=IF(G27>B27;"BUDGET EXCEEDED";"") (-> this symbol isn't part of the formula)
- It should have been column F; I used G on purpose just to make you think a little. Don't take it personally. The formula works perfectly fine.
Take a page out of Walter Jackson48's book and piece together what you need.
If you have even a basic grasp of English, Excel has built-in help functions. Use them. There are examples for every single formula out there. Learning the logic behind the math is a steeper climb, but once it clicks, it stays with you forever.🙂 (Speaking from experience—it took quite a bit of grinding).
Best regards.

Thanks, everyone—to you and Walter Jackson48. I owe you one; I needed this as a template for an important project.

I actually figured most of it out immediately, though I still had to work on getting that red color formatting right. As long as it displays "Budget Exceeded," I'm good. Thanks again. 🙂
Benjamin Wilson7 said:You could structure that explanation using a formula like this:
=IF(G27>B27;"BUDGET EXCEEDED";"") -> you can change the text inside the quotation marks to whatever you prefer

Enter that formula into cell G27, then simply drag it down.
Once the formula is in, click back onto cell G27. When your cursor turns into a small black cross at the bottom right corner of the cell, just click and drag downwards. (Make sure to clear out that "NO" from the cell first)
Wherever the budget is exceeded, your custom text will appear (along with red coloring, as Walter Jackson48 suggested)

Well, that isn't working for me. It keeps telling me I can't use the minus sign or the greater than symbol, and suggests replacing them with quotes using a single tick. The problem is, I don't have that specific key on my keyboard. 🙂
I am uploading a simplified screenshot of my Excel document along with the specific tasks I need to complete using formulas. I am struggling to figure this out, but I am on a tight deadline, so any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

As you can see, I have two specific problems to solve. Question 1 concerns how to handle changing costs; for instance, if a value shifts from 20 to 25, how do I set it up so the total costs automatically update to 55? I need them to be directly linked.

Question 2 involves comparing planned versus actual budgets. In the first two scenarios, the budget is fine because the actual spending is lower. However, the third case is problematic. If the budget is exceeded—for example, if we hit 3500—how can I trigger an automatic alert? I was told to implement a "NOTE" (explanation) or perhaps a "ToDo" list. Essentially, I want the system to flag the error automatically by turning the cell red when the budget is blown, perhaps accompanied by a note explaining the next steps.

Please do not delete this thread until someone has had a chance to respond. This is quite urgent.

Thank you in advance. 🙂
