Walter Jackson48 said:Think about it like this: you’ve got three pages—a cover, a table of contents, and then your intro. If I’m following you right, you want that third page (the intro) to actually show up as page "2." To pull that off, try this:😁go to the very bottom of that first page (the cover), hit Insert, then Break, then Next page, and click OK. After that, jump to your second page (the contents), go to Insert, then Page Numbers, uncheck the box for Show Number on First page, hit Format, set it to start at 1, and click OK, OK. That should get that number "2" showing up right where you need it on the third sheet (the Intro).

Thanks a million! This is exactly what I needed! 🙂

Cheers!
If you guys are just as stumped as I am, then it is what it is. No biggie, I'll figure it out somehow. I won't let it get to me. 😉

Thanks for all the help so far! 🙂

Instead, try this: if the numbers are sitting in the footer at the bottom of the page, then... The second one. Double-click the footer on the page and you'll find exactly what you need in the options. Link to the Previous SectionJust click that. Then go ahead and do the exact same thing on the third page. Once you're done, give it a shot and try deleting the page numbers. 😍 Same deal with the second part of the text. Just click the header at the top of the page, hit "Link to Previous" again, and then just wipe out everything you don't need!

Man, this is just getting ridiculous! 🤣

I tried that too, but here’s the deal—that third option right under "Previous Section" and "Next Section"? It’s basically ghosting me. The "Link to Previous" button is totally grayed out.

I tried clicking it twice, and I even hit "Go to Header" or "Go to Footer"—honestly, it’s all the same to me—but nothing happens. Still stuck.

I tried messing around with those checkboxes on the side—you know, the ones for "Different first page," "Different odd & even pages," and "Show document text"—but no luck.
I say, maybe there's a connection here... If I play my cards right, that "Link to Previous Section" option might actually show up, and then I won't be stuck dealing with this mess again.

I'm checking out all these different "Page number" options right now.
So, there’s this "page number format" option where you can check the box for "Include chapter number." I didn't have it checked before, so I just toggled it on, but nope—still nothing. It’s like trying to fix a leaky faucet by just staring at it. And then, of course, there’s that thing you mentioned in your first post about manually setting the starting number so it doesn't just default to 1.
Dana Diaz8 said:From what I can tell, you're dealing with two things here:
1. How to ditch the page numbers on the first two pages.
2. How to make a specific page start numbering from whatever number you want.

For the first part, just split your term paper into two sections using a page break at the end of the second page. That first section covers your first two pages, and the second section handles everything else starting from page three (use a continuous section break at the top of page three). Once you've successfully split the doc into two sections—you'll know it worked if you double-click the header or footer—just go ahead and insert page numbers but they'll show up everywhere initially. Since you split the document, just click into that first section and delete the number. If you did it right, those numbers should vanish from the first two pages while staying perfectly intact from page three onwards...

As for the second part, say you don't want page three to actually say "3," but for some reason, you need it to say "15." Just hit "insert page numbers" and look for the "format page numbers" option. A window will pop up where you can select "start at" and just type in your number (in this case, 15).

Man, thanks for putting in the work, that was a super clear explanation. But, once again... I hit the button to number the pages, and sure enough, everything looks fine and every page gets its number.
BUT, when I try to wipe the number off the first or second page, the whole thing disappears. Every single number vanishes. I just can't seem to kill a single number on one sheet without nuking the rest.

And about that second point, that wasn't actually what I was asking.
I put my term paper title, my full name, and my grade level in the header above.
And the exact same thing happens with that as it does with the numbers.
I can edit it, style it, pick any font I want—that part works fine. But I can't get rid of it on those first two pages.
It’s like an all-or-nothing deal. Either the header and numbers are on every single page, or they aren't on any of them.
So, like the title says...

Alright, here's the deal. I know where the settings are, but I can't figure out how to make the page numbering skip the first two pages and start on the third. It’s for my high school graduation paper, and it looks super unprofessional to have numbers on the cover page and the table of contents. I want to skip those.

Same goes for the header. Honestly, I don't care about that as much, but if anyone knows how to wipe it from those first two pages too, you'd be a lifesaver.

Thanks in advance! 🙂
