- How to enable sorting and filtering when cells are locked on a protected worksheet.

It all comes back to that same issue: cell ranges with editing permissions. My specific headache is having several protected columns sitting right in the middle of a table I need to sort. It’s clear Microsoft didn't design the software with this exact scenario in mind. Honestly, it's frustrating. My only real workaround is to unprotect the entire sheet, run the sort, and then lock it back up. That seems to be the only way to handle it. Thanks for the help, regardless.

I just want to ask one more time: why does Ctrl+F fail to search through hidden columns? On certain sheets, it still works perfectly fine, but unfortunately, on most others, it doesn't. I’ve gone looking for a reason, but I can't find any discernible difference between them. It’s inconsistent—sometimes it searches hidden cells, and sometimes it ignores them entirely. Why is this happening?

Sorting and filtering on a protected worksheet works just fine for me

It works perfectly if I unprotect the locked cells, but then the sheet protection becomes useless. Completely pointless. Thanks for the effort.
I’ve run into another issue. When I use >, it isn't searching through hidden cells. This wasn't an issue back in the 2003 version.
Does anyone have a fix for this?
When you protect a Sheet, make sure to check the boxes for "Sort" and "Use auto filter" (check the second image in the link above).

I tried it. It doesn't work.
Issue 1: Does anyone know how to set a password to open an entire Workbook in Excel 2007?
Issue 2: I have protected Sheets where users are allowed to input data into specific columns and cells. Every so often, I have to unprotect the Sheet just to sort the data.
Is there a workaround that allows for sorting without having to strip away the sheet protection?
Issue 3: Every single time—and I mean every time—I re-enable the protection, I have to manually check the "edit objects" box again. This setting is what allows people to insert comments or tweak charts on a protected sheet. If I miss it, the functionality breaks for everyone. Is there a way to automate this?
