Anyone still running Windows 7?

Hey there!
I am seriously begging anyone who can help me out!
So, I'm currently running Windows XP, but I really want to upgrade to Windows 7. I actually have the Windows 7 installation CD right here. Could someone, please, maybe explain how I even go about doing this? Like, what kind of specs does my PC need to handle it, what's the deal with drivers and all that other stuff? I've never done anything like this before, so if someone could just walk me through it step-by-step, I would be so grateful.
The main reason I'm dying to get Windows 7 is because of this MP5 player I have—it just won't connect to XP! I spent forever trying to figure out why the computer wouldn't recognize it, only to realize later that I just needed Windows 7. I even went over to my friend's place to try it on her laptop, and it worked perfectly with Windows 7 without any drama at all.
