Before you even think about trying to install XP, you really ought to double-check if drivers actually exist for your specific laptop; most manufacturers have moved on and stopped supporting XP entirely, which means finding compatible drivers can be a total nightmare. 🙂

edit: I realized I forgot to mention that I've been using Windows 7 since the very first day it hit the market, and I have to say, I am incredibly happy with it. I haven't run into a single issue... 🙂

How is everyone feeling about Windows 7 so far? I mean, looking at the big picture—is it actually a step up from Windows XP? Personally, I’ve been running Vista lately, and honestly, I’m just not feeling it at all... it's been a bit of a headache, which is why I'm itching to wipe it and install something else! I'm not entirely sure if my hardware plays a huge role here, but just in case it matters, here are the specs for my laptop (it's a Toshiba):
