Anyone still running Windows 7?
in Software ·
Hey everyone,
I’m not entirely sure if this question belongs on this specific thread, so if you know a better place for it, please point me in the right direction.
Here’s the situation: I need to know if it’s actually possible to recover files from an external hard drive. I can't tell if they're truly gone or just inaccessible, but the drive won't mount. While I was installing Windows 7, I had my external drive plugged into the PC and I accidentally wiped the wrong partition. Now, whenever I try to access the drive, Windows pops up a message saying the disk needs to be formatted before it can be used. I’m definitely not clicking "format"—I don't want to make a bad situation even worse. It’s a 500 GB external drive and it was pretty much full of important files. Is there any way to revert things back to how they were, or at least salvage some of the data? If so, what software should I use and what's the best approach?
I checked with a local data recovery specialist over at DriveSavers, but they quoted me around $233, which is honestly a bit steep for me right now. If anyone knows how to handle this kind of thing at home without being a pro, let me know. Sorry for the off-topic post.
Thanks in advance.
Best.
