Anyone still running Windows 7? in Software ·
Yeah... I found that online.

Hiding an existing account isn't the issue—I already know how to handle that. I just go into the registry, create a new account list called "special accounts," add the specific user to that list, and set the value to 0 instead of 1. But the thing is, it doesn't actually hide the account; it just temporarily disables it. A buddy of mine tried this on his admin account and he barely managed to get back in through Safe Mode...

What I’m actually aiming for is a different result. I want the admin profile picture to be completely absent from the login screen. I want only the three standard user icons to show up, and then, when I'm ready to log into the admin account, I want to trigger that classic Windows prompt where you manually type in the username and password—kind of like how you used to hit Ctrl+Alt+Del back in the Windows XP days.

I've scoured various forums and everyone seems to say it's impossible on Windows 7, which is why I'm asking here. Maybe someone actually knows a workaround...

I don't have the patience to scroll through all 350 pages of this thread right now, so I’m just going to jump in with a specific question:

Is there any way to hide a single user account from the Windows 7 logon screen while keeping it fully functional? I don't want to disable it... I just don't want its icon cluttering up the list of users at startup.

Here's the setup: I have computers where three different users log in. Each one has their own profile and needs their own icon on the logon screen so they can just click it and enter their password.

On top of those three, there’s a fourth account—the administrator. That specific icon shouldn't be visible alongside the others. Ideally, I'd want it to work like it did back on Windows XP, where you hit Ctrl+Alt+Del to bring up a manual prompt for the username and password... then I type in the admin credentials.

From what I've dug up online so far, it seems impossible on Windows 7. But I'm wondering if anyone here has actually pulled it off using some kind of script or workaround?

I've managed to hide an account before, but that ended up disabling it entirely. To get back in, I had to mess with the registry to reactivate it, which isn't a viable solution. If I hide the admin account I need, getting it back online is a massive headache...
