Lately, I've been messing around with desktop ink for the cheap cartridges, like the HP 301 and Canon PG 520 CL 521. Honestly, the results are killer, especially when you run a Canon through a CISS setup. The only real downside is that the original cartridges hold almost nothing. But hey, the ink is dirt cheap

So this HP can run on just color, just black, or both at once. There's no Intel chip blocking you, but you won't get any ink level readings either.

Again, the big catch is how tiny the cartridge capacity is. But for maybe $133 bucks, you basically get a whole new printer and 10x more ink than any other way. If that's your vibe, go for it.

Compare that to third-party replacements for the newer printers—those tiny 5 ml cartridges will set you back at least $13. Minimum.

...thanks for the reply...so which Canon are you actually using...that one you mentioned with the cheap ink?

Looking for a solid printer that won't break the bank on ink—ideally something where third-party refills are cheap. I found three options online and could really use some advice or firsthand experience to help me pick... doesn't strictly need color, just black is fine, even a laser would work, but I'm mostly worried about print quality and making sure the thing doesn't die on me after just a few months.
