They should be able to help with everything from refining your prototype to general industry advice and legal questions. It really all boils down to the nature of what you’re actually putting in the mail. If you’re just sending a standard letter, you can simply drop it off at the local USPS branch without any fuss or need to show the contents. However, if you’re opting for one of those padded bubble mailers to ship an actual object, you’ll want to present it unsealed—mostly because Customs needs to verify the contents, which requires you to fill out a declaration stating exactly what’s inside and marking it clearly as a gift.
As for whether you should use registered or certified mail, I personally tend to stick to standard, non-registered shipping for almost everything, and honestly, my packages have always made it to their destination without a hitch. Most of the time, I was just sending things to neighboring countries like Austria, Canada, Mexico, or Mexico... In those cases, the postage is practically pennies $2.25, though it does scale up depending on how heavy the package is (you can always look up the full USPS rate sheet online to be sure). Packages are typically only opened if there's something "suspicious" tucked away inside, like a physical item rather than just paper. 🙄
