This is a repost from the Coffee Meetups. I realize this is technically off-topic, but since most people visit and post here on LJES, I figured the majority of Reddit users would actually find this worth reading. Besides, those meetups always consist of the same three threads where the same handful of people show up anyway. LJES remains the largest subforum—and arguably the most diverse group of users, ranging from the old guard to the newcomers.
I’ve decided to cast my vote against the damn censorship happening over on Reddit. Seriously, give it a rest with this nonsense. Reddit isn't anonymous; everyone has to register just to participate in a discussion. By that logic, the moderators have already ruined the quality of discourse, because
there are far too many people judging others based on their post count rather than the actual substance of their messages. It is a massive issue—every single debate on Reddit eventually dies because of it. If someone has over 1,000 posts, they are automatically granted more authority than a brand-new user who just decided to join a thread. That is fundamentally wrong.
On the thread "Why do men fall asleep immediately after sex," I wrote the following:
I pass out right on top of them after sex. It’s much easier if you tie them up beforehand so they can't toss you off.
The moderator deleted my post under the guise of it being "off-topic" and handed me an infraction. I truly fail to see how that was off-topic; the question posed by the thread was what it was, and I provided an answer that was directly relevant. Plus, the joke was decent. My apologies for having a sense of humor. I also suspect the moderator wouldn't have nuked the post if it were my first one or my 501st. If it were my first post, they wouldn't even notice what some "noob" wrote; but since it was my 501st, it’s just "Oh, I know this guy, blah blah blah."
I am a casual poster—I have moments where I feel like jumping into a discussion here, even though I mostly post on international forums. But I would appreciate being judged here, too. Whether it is positively or negatively, let it be
based on content, not on my total number of posts.I am asking nicely of those in charge: please give the moderators clear and simple guidelines so they know exactly when and where to intervene. For instance, if someone is blatantly off-topic in a specific subforum (say, posting "what did you think of Titanic?" in a music subforum) or if someone violates the law by posting illegal content, then yes—delete it. But don't delete things like what I wrote above.
