Gotta say, Reddit totally dropped the ball on this whole event—barely anyone's actually talking here, yet when it’s time to blow up the threads, everyone’s suddenly all over it :P
jadetiger962 I was hunting for that interview too, but came up empty—though there are tons of photos floating around Facebook...

Seriously though—I REALLY don't want to deal with side streets over there 😲 and taking the long way isn't worth it since I live right off Broadway—plus I don't know that part of town well enough to navigate through Times Square and Houston to get where I'm going. 🤷
you can cut through Queens on the right and head straight to Walmart—don't have the time right now but I can map out a route for you on Google Maps...

Since I found this community, I actually biked all the way to the coast one weekend this summer. It’s funny how my folks reacted... just acting like I was losing my mind, saying I didn't need to do it since nobody's forcing me or whatever. 🙂
Props to you for sticking with it. Honestly, you just gotta laugh at people who don't get why riding is such a blast. Sure, it can be exhausting or uncomfortable sometimes, but it's still a rush—personally, I don't know anyone who got bored and just quit. 👍
The bike is my main ride, obviously!! I only grab the car twice a month for work—that's it. People act so surprised that I actually want to pedal through the freezing rain and whatever else, but honestly? Some people just get that it's a lifestyle choice.
I’d go with one of those old-school duffel bags—you can cram basically everything in there. The guys who actually know what they're doing will get what I mean.
Don't sweat it—he didn't think you had any kind of edge either. To guys like him, you're just another obstacle in the lane—just more background noise to those "alpha" types who think they own the road.
I’d bet my life over 90% of drivers don't even realize a cyclist has to actually dismount to have right-of-way at a standard crosswalk—if someone hit you, they either weren't looking or you just caught them off guard...
probably just some angry cyclist shaking their fist at a concrete barrier😁
the paths aren't officially ranked, but I have no clue why some are marked red and others aren't—though, honestly, the red ones definitely pop more
We’re just a shallow, lazy nation—I guess that explains why our transit system is such a mess. I always talk about doing it, but never actually get around to it (though at least we can mock it here)—I really should ride from the Warehouse District up through Main Street over to Držićev to snap ten ridiculous photos of bike lane obstacles. Not even mentioning those poorly designed speed bumps they slapped down later; they basically wreck your bike because you hit them way too fast since they're about 5cm higher than the rest of the pavement. Makes for one hell of a bumpy ride. I also gotta mention some stuff that just leaves me confused. Since the laws are so "brilliant," you aren't allowed to cross a crosswalk unless there's a designated bike lane right there—so then you get these weird scenarios. Like, if there's no lane and just a standard crosswalk, obviously "by the book" you have to hop off and walk. Then there's the red-colored bike lanes that run right through a pedestrian crossing where you're good to go and have priority over cars. But then you've got a non-red lane that suddenly cuts out 5-6 meters before the crosswalk and restarts 5-6 meters after. So, "legally" speaking, you're stuck in this limbo where you have to dismount because you technically lose priority mid-crossing. But then there are intersections where the non-red lane doesn't cut out early. They just run all the way to the street, even if they aren't marked on the road itself. If I remember right, the traffic lights still show a cyclist icon, so logically you should have priority, but I honestly don't get the whole red vs. non-red lane distinction!!??

If the weather report hadn't mentioned a tailwind, you wouldn't have even thought about biking to work today!!😛
