Sellers make mistakes all the time and miss details in their logs. At the end of the day, it's the owner's responsibility to know exactly what they own and how it's identified. If someone steals your gear and you can't prove what was taken because the shop clerk botched the frame number on your receipt, who’s at fault? It’s pretty obvious. If you don't have a backup of your paperwork, the seller is the one on the hook.
