Bitten cheek inside my mouth—what should I do?

So, I’m looking for some advice on how to prevent this from happening again... because I recently managed to accidentally bite my own cheek, and honestly, I’m not even sure how it occurred—it’s a bit embarrassing, really. Currently, the area is quite red, looks inflamed, and there's almost a small indentation where the wound is. It’s becoming painful whenever I try to eat, and the discomfort has actually spread to my teeth, which is unusual since they don't normally bother me. Is there a specific remedy or perhaps an over-the-counter treatment you might suggest for something like this? Thanks in advance for any help you can provide.
