If anyone is going to tell me that this isn't a political issue, I have to respectfully disagree; to my mind, it is deeply political because we are seeing nothing more than various government agencies passing the buck back and forth to avoid taking responsibility.

Furthermore, if there happens to be an existing thread covering similar ground elsewhere, I believe it would be quite helpful and polite to simply provide a link to it as a way of explaining the closure...
