Doing good for purely pragmatic reasons? in Miscellaneous ·
I’m asking because management floated several different PR strategies, and we employees collectively jumped at the idea of visiting a local children's shelter, thinking it was a genuine way to give back to the community while we were out there.

Is this really such an immoral move on our part? Based on how some people are talking here, you’d think doing something proactive would be a far greater sin than simply sitting on our hands and doing absolutely nothing at all.

Interesting perspective... so you're suggesting it's better to withhold help entirely rather than provide assistance while strategically extracting some benefit (provided it doesn't backfire on them)?

Obviously, helping out of pure, selfless altruism is the superior moral path, but that isn't really what we're debating here...

In what specific way is the scenario described above considered immoral? Who exactly is being harmed?

So, we’re looking at an ethical dilemma here. I wasn't entirely sure which sub ever fits this kind of thing, so moderators, please feel free to move this thread wherever you think it belongs...

The scenario is this: I’m planning a one-time visit to a local children's shelter to drop off some gifts. However, there's a self-promotion element involved—I'd want to take photos with the kids and eventually land a feature in a local paper with a headline along the lines of "Local Citizen Performs Act of Kindness."

Is that inherently immoral? Or is it actually better to just stay away entirely and leave them with nothing?

God, I don't even remember the last time I laughed this hard. 🤣 Elizabeth Diaz42, you absolute legend! 😂

I really need to start paying more attention to other sports. 😍

That’s Sokaz, and they’ve been around for sixty years. 🙂

Check out www.sokaz.com; they have a forum there too, so just ask them if you need anything.
