Anyone still running Windows 7? in Software ·
Nicholas Martin80 said:Yeah, probably just copy it over to Windows 7—saves you from having to fire up a virtual machine.

If I recall correctly—and my memory isn't *that* bad—a simple copy/paste should do the trick.

That’s exactly what I’m looking for. So it works!
Thanks!

Copy or Cut.
I just want to be able to use files on Windows 7—say, I download a movie on an old XP machine and then watch it over on my Windows 7 setup. Is that clear enough for everyone?

Can you actually get back to me on my question??

I've got a quick question for you guys.
It’s not strictly about Windows 7 anymore—but since I see plenty of people online, I figured I’d ask.
So, I’m running Windows 7 right now, and I want to get Windows XP set up on VirtualBox. If I download something while using the XP instance, is there a way to move that file over to my Windows 7 setup?

Timothy Taylor42 said:Which laptop are we talking about here? You probably have a hidden partition used to roll Windows back to its factory settings. Some models don't even bother giving you a DVD—just check your laptop's user manual to see if that's an option...

Exactly—that's the deal. There are two partitions on here. One of them actually houses the HDD Recovery folder.
So, does that mean I can just reinstall Windows from there??

You can't just grab one off the web and expect the original key to actually work.

I honestly have no clue how there’s no DVD drive. When he first got it, I actually checked the laptop myself—looking around like, "Okay, where are the DVDs?" But he says there isn't one at all. And this wasn't some old used thing, either—he bought it brand new from Best Buy.
Man, I really wish there was a way to stop Windows Explorer from crashing on me—it’s such a headache! Every time I start pushing my system too hard and overload things, I get hit with that annoying "Windows Explorer has stopped working" error message. It's like trying to run a marathon in flip-flops—once you pick up the pace, everything just falls apart!
Is there any hope for this?

I’ve got a laptop running an original copy of Windows Vista Home Premium. It hasn't been wiped or had a fresh OS install in a few years—just needs some serious cleaning up.
Now I'm looking to wipe the drive and reinstall that same Vista Home Premium. I still have the sticker with the product key. My main concern is this—my dad is planning to take the laptop over to Germany, and I'm wondering if they'll flag or block the device? I'm pretty sure it'll be fine since it's a legitimate version of Windows, but he has a buddy who actually got caught because he was using a pirated version.
Also, can I just download a clean, official version of Windows from the internet, plug in my key, and call it a day? Should everything work smoothly?
Sorry if that sounded a bit scrambled while I was typing it out—just trying to get the point across!

thanks !!!!

Hey there! I'm back. When I picked up this PC, it came with Windows 7 Ultimate pre-installed—fingers crossed it’s the real deal...

The OS is currently set to German. Is there any way to switch the language directly within Windows without having to wipe the whole system and start from scratch?

Hey there!
I've been thinking about installing Windows 7—a buddy of mine is running Windows 7 Home Premium 32-bit... at first, I was leaning toward the 64-bit version since everyone says it's superior, but he's actually pushing me toward the 32-bit route because he thinks certain games won't run on 64-bit systems. Is that actually a thing? How does that work—is there a workaround or what? Also, does anyone happen to know which specific games might have issues on those 64-bit versions of Windows?

So, I could probably run things on a GTX 460 at medium settings without any major stuttering—smooth sailing, basically. But how can I be sure the HD 6870 actually blows all those others out of the water? I've got another offer on the table too...

Honestly, I wouldn't push her to max settings... I don't even play games on High myself—I usually stick to Medium just to catch some details without cranking the resolution too high. If you kept everything on Medium, say, it would have run perfectly fine without any stuttering... plus, even with a GTX 460 if it's got 1GB of VRAM, it should still hold its own.

How on earth do you think a Core i7 and a GTX 460 wouldn't work together?

Aha, okay then... so, can I actually run some of those more demanding titles with this setup? Say, if I've got 4 or 6 GB of RAM and an Intel i7 870...

Look, I’m definitely not an expert when it comes to these cards—that's why I'm picking your brains here. I'm currently putting together a new rig and I've got a few different builds on the table right now. I'm trying to figure out which GPU is actually the powerhouse among this lineup. Most of the other specs are pretty much identical across the board; my main sticking point is just deciding on the graphics card... and honestly, from what I can tell, the GTX460 is the clear winner here.

Maybe this is a bit off-topic, but I wanted to get your take on these cards
ATI Radeon hd 5770 Nvidia GT210 Nvidia GT430 Nvidia GTX460 Nvidia GTS450 ATI Radeon HD 5450
NVidia GT210
NVidia GT430
NVidia GTX460
NVidia GTS450
ATI Radeon HD 5450

Specifically—can that first one, the HD5770, actually handle GTA IV.? Also, what's the verdict on the rest? I don't really care about noise levels or minor details—just looking for pure raw power to run games.
