So, I’m one of those bilirubin people. My levels have always been high, so doctors basically brushed it off—whatever. But lately, the fatigue is unreal—I’m talking sleeping 14 hours straight without even trying.
My GI doc sent me to get checked for Gilbert's syndrome, but the tests showed I've got the TA6/TA7 genotype (heterozygous), not the homozygous mutation. So, nothing there.
Last week I did a fasting test—literally ate zero food for two days (which sucked because I had to hit this massive dinner party on the first night 😢).
Long story short, here are my numbers:
Neutrophil granulocytes (44-72): 73
aspartate-not-not-notrfer (11-38): 38
alanine-aminotransferase (12-48): 62
Total bilirubin 3-20: 63
Direct bilirubin 8
I'm just a college student, not an alcoholic. I don't touch anything stronger than wine, and even then it's just at parties or dinners—maybe 3 or 4 glasses max. A few years back I tried a shot of Dalmatian Vodka and honestly, I was stuck on the floor for 15 minutes from the liver pain alone.
Anyone know what else this could be? Like, besides Gilbert's, what's actually wrong? Also, what do neutrophil granulocytes and alanine-aminotransferase actually do?
P.S. Really hoping I don't end up needing a liver biopsy.
