Hormonal Contraception: The Pill [General Discussion]

Roger Parker said:So, I’m 16, and yeah, I have a boyfriend, but we’re nowhere near having sex or anything... Honestly, my period cramps have been absolutely brutal since I was 11. They’re usually super regular, but this month they showed up a whole week early... I’ve been taking Neofen Forte—not an ad or anything, just what I’m stuck with right now, ugh—especially on the first day because that’s when everything just feels impossible. After that, I just take them whenever I need to.
My mom is pretty much done watching me suffer through this and constantly popping ibuprofen, so she’s mentioned sending me to a gynecologist to see about getting on the pill. But I don't know... I have NEVER been down with the idea of taking pills, hormones, or any of that stuff. It’s just that right now, I’m barely able to crawl from my bed to the bathroom, let alone make it through half a day at high school. I’m honestly just lost on what to do...
What do you guys think? Should I actually go, or just keep suffering through it? Hoping someone sees this... thanks so much in advance.
Also, I posted the exact same thing in another thread, but figured this one might be better since it’s newer and maybe more likely to get some replies.
Ugh, I know exactly how you feel. For me, that first day before the bleeding even starts was the absolute worst—the cramps, the constant need for painkillers, being curled up in bed for a week straight... it's everything. You aren't alone in this. You could go for a checkup, get some blood work done, and maybe a coagulation test to check how your blood clots. From there, a doctor might suggest hormonal birth control. Personally, I've been using contraceptive patches for four years now, and it's been a game changer; my cycle is regular, lasts about five days max, and comes every 25 days like clockwork. Definitely talk it over with your mom and a doctor, especially since you have a boyfriend; if things ever progress to sexual intercourse, you won't have to worry about timing your cycle.🙂)
