RAM Upgrade Advice in Desktops ·
I’m just trying to wrap my head around one thing—what are the actual odds that this RAM ends up being a complete dud? Can anyone here take a look at my setup and give me an honest assessment? Please, I really need some eyes on this.
I’m honestly terrified of just throwing my money down the drain by ordering this online without knowing for sure if it'll even work. I really don't want to get burned here, so please, help a guy out.

Is my processor actually up to the task of handling 4GB of RAM—

The RAM should hold up just fine; sure, it might feel a tiny bit sluggish, but honestly, it's such a negligible slowdown that you won't even notice it.

Does the connection speed have anything to do with the processor? I remember catching this tech segment on a show like Wired once where they mentioned the CPU essentially sets the ceiling for everything a computer can actually handle. My current processor is sitting at 3.06 GHz.

Here is the clip I'm talking about:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tOzWbDnm68M

Since I'm currently running on just 1GB of RAM, how much of a speed boost am I actually going to see if I bump that up to 4GB?

What exactly am I looking at here?
Is this going to cause things to lag a little bit?

Right now I'm running DDR2 PC2-5300 at 660 MHz,
Does it actually matter if I switch over to DDR2 PC6400, 800MHz (I mean, will this new RAM even be compatible with my current rig?)???

So, what’s the verdict here?
Should I pull the trigger and buy it?

Alright, here’s the situation:
I’m looking at picking up two sticks of 🙂Kingston RAM—specifically 2GB DDR2 at 800MHz—which would bring my total to 4GB. However, I was browsing crucial.com and they’re claiming the absolute ceiling for my setup is just 1GB per slot. Here is exactly what it says

Memory:
DDR2 PC2-5300

Memory Type: DDR2 PC2-5300, DDR2 (non-ECC)
Maximum Memory: 2GB
Slots: 2
Each memory slot can hold DDR2 PC2-5300 with a maximum of 1GB per slot.*

I’ve attached a screenshot for reference:http://i42.tinypic.com/33nzwxe.jpg

Now I’m sitting here second-guessing everything—if I pull the trigger on this Kingston kit, am I just throwing money down the drain if it won't actually work?
Can someone please give me a detailed breakdown of what's going on here?

Is there any chance this thing just won't play nice with my computer—like, maybe the hardware can't handle it, or there’s some other underlying issue going on?

Right now, I’m stuck running with:DDR2 PC2-5300, DDR2—which is a total headache—simply because if I want to upgrade, any new RAM has to be an exact match for what’s already plugged into this aging rig.

Motherboard: Intel Core i9-13900K
If I pick up two separate 2 GB sticks, am I going to see something like 3.25 or maybe even 3.5 GB of usable RAM in my system?
Is that actually doable?

I’m trying to figure out how to actually determine which specific type of RAM I should be looking at for an upgrade. Right now, here is what I'm working with:
  • Windows XP 32-bit
  • 2 x 512 MB RAM - DDR2
  • 3.06 GHz Processor
  • Do you guys need any other specs or details from my end...?

My goal is to upgrade this thing as much as physically possible.
Here’s the real question: what is the absolute ceiling for a 32-bit Windows XP system?
